On this day 57 years ago Keith & I graduated high school.  Back then I have no recollection that it was Groundhog Day ;D

This day?  I thought most graduations were in June.

Big city, baby boom thing.  In Detroit if your birthday was after December 1 you started kindergarten at the end of January after you turned 5 and graduated 13 years later.  I started K in January of 1956 and should have graduated in January 1969.  But I took the second half of 8th grade in summer school to get on a typical academic track.  It’s why Richard’s brother and I are 5 days apart in age but graduated from high school a year apart.  No half year stuff in Middletown.

That’s wild! Would you have different summer breaks than your siblings?

DR RON PULLIAM I have to say that DR FREDDIE is correct.....I stole the "futzing & finessing" verbiage from MR BK.....and as a writer, I have to say it is perfect.

DR FREDDIE I am taking it to the director/producer of the Indy theatre I used to work for this coming Sunday......so I shall see what transpires after that.

I have to say that the world may not be READY for this particular play and point of view at this time.

DR RODZINSKI I saw a movie called BOTTOMS once, but I don't think it's the same one you saw.

I swear, I never heard of this system until today. But I wasn't living in the bigger cities in those years, either.

Has anyone heard of this musical?

Hot Spot is a musical with the book by Jack Weinstock and Willie Gilbert, lyrics by Martin Charnin, music by Mary Rodgers, and additional lyrics and music by Stephen Sondheim. It had a brief run on Broadway in 1963. The musical is a political satire.

Stephen Sondheim, a friend of Rodgers, was brought onto the creative team, resulting in the show's opening and closing number, "Don't Laugh" and the song "That's Good, That's Bad".

The cast starred Judy Holliday and included Conrad Bain, Joe Bova, Joseph Campanella, Mary Louise Wilson, Carmen De Lavallade, Charles Braswell and George Furth. This marked Judy Holliday's final stage performance. (She was quoted as saying "You can only live through one or two Hot Spots in your life.")

I learned about it on a theater chat board, comment below. It was referring to an interview about FOLLIES a few nights ago.

“Ron Fassler was an excellent interviewer of Frank Rich and Ted Chapin. Still dashing Kurt Peterson was in the audience. Chapin said Sondheim objected to being called "prickly" in his book about the show. There were lots of laughs if not a ton of things we haven't heard before. Was interesting to hear Rich talk of multiple viewings of HOT SPOT(he was an usher) No mention of the upcoming Vegas FOLLIES production in April in which Chapin is playing Weissman.”

Jrand, is your play of a political nature?

Is that typical that you graduated high school in February?

Back then it was.  We were the winter semester class vs summer class.

The nice thing about our winter class is that it was smaller than the summer class.

The first time I heard “Meadowlark”, it was sung by Lindsay in the high school auditorium.
I had tears rolling down my face.

She is an exceptionally lovely person.
I never had any doubt that she would be a successful Broadway and television actress.

That is a nice memory.

No, DR Rodzinski.  We just took the first half of a grade late January-June and the second half September-January.  What it did mean was that you spent Christmas break, doing term papers and getting ready for final exams.

Until Jane mentioned it today, I’d only heard of it in Detroit (where I was) and in Cleveland.

Two days later Keith proposed while we were on the beach.
That sounds quite romantic. 💞

It was in its simplicity.  I can still picture.  As it was winter and we were wearing regular clothes we hadn't gone far onto the sand.  Sitting and talking when Keith looked at me with love in his eyes and asked me to marry him.  I said "of course".  To me it was sweet and perfect.  I don't understand these elaborate proposals.  that are popular today.
