TOD:

My answer is, and will always be: the original production of FOLLIES.

OMG!!  How could I not have thought of that?? :o

Topic of the Day:

Anyone Can Whistle
Candide (1956)
Carrie
Mack and Mabel
Merrily We Roll Along (1981)
Nick and Nora
Prettybelle
Rags

Well, DR George, I saw several of these, so I will offer my thoughts.
Carrie: epic disaster, completely hilarious srage and costume design: the opening shower scene had the high school girls un wrap-around towels witrh shoulder straps, why the gym coach ruan around in chiffon cocktail dresses. Betty Buckley looked like Whistler's Mother.
When Carrie dressed for the prom, she had this "Wouldn't it be loverly" number while her shoes and accessories danced around magically; she's terrified of her kinetic powers?
At the opening of act two, the baddies - Charlote d'Amboise, I think, and her boyfriend who looked about as I would as a high school boy, have this "If You Love Me, Kill a Pig" number while he jumped into a pit and pretended to beat an unseen pig to death while they played loud pig squeals over the PA.

Merrily We Roll Along: who wants to pay full Broadway ticket prices to see a badly conceived high schhol play where the "kids" playing disillusioned, cynical 40 year-olds don't have any idea of what they're doing. I never thought Frank was enough of a villain, ut I thought that Lonny Price and Jason Alexander were quite good. I also thought the show only became involving when we finally got back to their ages of 20-25 with "Opening Doors." I still dislike this show.

Rags: a tragedy; there was so much good about it and it had a fantastic cast. The major problem was that politically, the Tammany Hall politicians hate the Jews but need the vote; Teresa Stratas led them all in a Hora and became the belle of the ball; REALLY? the other problem was Larry Kert, a good man who wanted to be charming and loved. and he's playing the villain of the show!

Prettybelle: okay, I didn't see it, but I read both the novel and the script because it fascinated me that antne saw a musical in it. The tone of the script was smarmy and dirty where the novel was outrageous.

And those are my thoughts. For today, anyway.

Thanks for your thoughts, Larry. :)

Well, it's going to be kind of a classic Monday, what with a quick trip to the bank, a short panic-shopping trip, and a Nor'easter coming through tonight and tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be a classic something or other as well, with 5" to 9" or more" of snow in the forecast.

Vibes you don't have any damage from the storm.

I couldn't have stayed in Floria another week?

On the bright side, at least you weren't attempting to get home just before or during the storm.

About to finish A Good Hard Look by Ann Napolitano. Excellent. Really fine.

As much as I liked Hello Beautiful, I haven't considered reading her other novels.  I'll give Hard Look a try.

Yes I like DR GEORGE's new pan.

Which reminds me of a moment in an episode of The Little Rascals.  They were working on baking a birthday cake.  The recipe book says:  "Grease your pan."

And the next thing you see is Spanky rubbing lard on his face.

Brings to mind the movie where the female ad executive says of the packaging "The agency that gets this account will be the one that shows the client the most attractive can."

And the next thing you see is the backsides of a line of chorus ladies and the client says "Most attractive!"

Wait, maybe we've talked about that movie already.

I'm up, I'm up - I have no idea how much sleep. Maybe five or six hours. Went to bed around two or two-thirty, up at five, back to bed at five-thirty, up at seven, back to bed at ten-thirty, and up at one-thirty.

Poor guy who lives in the back house had his car broken into and completely trashed. They used something to make a huge hole in the door, stole his hood, motor, and everything else they could. This had to have happened somewhere before I was up at five and I'm shocked that I didn't hear anything. Right out front.

I’m listening to the Camelot revival. I love the orchestra. The rest is rather earthbound. Like they bought into their own pretentiousness.
