DR Chas Orange Julius.  When I think of Orange Julius today I am not impressed.  When I think of it from my childhood, charming and delicious.

I only had it had two locations.  My mother and I would stop at the drug store counter, sit at the counter and have an Orange Julius along with a sandwich or hot dog.

Later I would get them at Stan's, who made them extra special.  If I also got a hot dog then I would sit at the counter to eat, otherwise it was either sit to drink & chat with Stan or get it to go.

Delightful memories.

They are.

Back from a wonderful lunch with my beloved Richard Sherman - we had so much fun. I think I'm the only friend he comes to have lunch with now. I had rigatoni with sausage in pink sauce. Wonderful. Since this was a belated birthday lunch, a chocolate shell containing gelato in chocolate, strawberry, and pistachio. Also very good.

TOD Redux:

White Castle -- ABSOLUTELY.  Trouble is, there is never one around any more.  Last time I went to one was in Indianapolis, and it was terrific.  Ten burgers, a large fries and onion chips and a large chocolate shake...for about $6.  SO GOOD!

I sometimes buy the frozen ones in grocery stores.  I try to find the big box because it's better value for the money.

I liked Arthur Treacher’s but those are all gone (again).
Captain D’s and Long John Silvers. The latter still has a few, I think.

Arthur Treacher's was really good.  I remember that from the 1980s.

Or was it the 1970s?  Or both?

Sorry to hear about your water issues, George. I’m glad you don’t have a broken pipe. Do take it seriously, though, as even minor leaks can cause a lot of damage.

Glad to hear DR Ron’s new medication is helping. Many people would be put off because it’s an injectable. You don’t seem to have a problem with that.

I did get a big chunk of tax work accomplished today.

I’d say you’re having a very good day. A mentor session, an interview, and a lot accomplished on your taxes. Even one could make a productive day.

Bruce, I’m glad Richard is still up to going to lunch. I was afraid it was too difficult for him now. Glad you had a good time. Did you go to the same place as before?

TOD:

I don’t usually go to fast food restaurants, but I did like Arthur Treacher’s for fish and chips and I used to like Orange Julius and A&W. I loved A&W, in fact.

I now frequent a little place called Fast Taco. It’s not fast food, as everything is cooked to order, but it is fast. Everything is fresh and the owners are a very nice Armenian couple.

I just learned that we won’t be able to use the laundry room next week. They need to open up a wall to let it dry out. Sigh. Fortunately, I did some laundry a couple days ago in case there were more delays in the repairs. I’m glad I did.

Just too many problems in this building.

Speaking of restaurants, a couple weeks ago I learned that an eatery I had returned to, Fresh Corn Grill, has closed. A week ago I learned that one of my bagel bakeries, Bagelworks, has closed as well. The Counter, a burger place near me, had a change in ownership. It’s a franchise and the owner wanted out. It’s still open, but it’s now owned by the parent company. I know that one was due to Covid and the slack sales since. I suspect the others were, too. Many businesses still haven’t recovered. It’s sad.

At least it is because they are retiring.  It is hard to imagine they haven't put it up for sale.  At the least I would think something else will go in the spot on the river.
