Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Mann-centric, and now it is time for you to post until the Mann made cows come home.

I slept very poorly, and I could not get my legs to relax. Around 12:45 I took a Tramadol and a Tizanidine tablet and fell asleep shortly after. I did not sleep well, but I was very happy to be surrounded by all three cats.

I watched a very strange and very black comedy titled Down Low, starring Zachary Quinto and Judith Light, with a short appearance at the end from Audra MacDonald. I thought much of the film was rather poor with some shocking, very funny and outrageous moments.

Hopefully, this will be a quiet day. I need to write a check, and I would love to get back to composing. Working on the ballet all last year got me enthused, and then I let it slide.

Oy!  Wednesday already?

Today is the 13th, and today is Pot Luck Seniors Luncheon at Johnston First Baptist Church!

I will attend, and I will take food.  I have some frozen sides I ordered from QVC  late last year, sides that would be great for a Christmas dinner, but which I never used because I did not make or attend a Christmas dinner.

One of the sides is a three cheese Macaroni and Cheese.  Another is a Cheese and Hashbrown Casserole.  That's a lot of cheese, eh?  Another is a sweet potato casserole and a fourth is a dressing disch.

I am going to do two only.  Likely, the first two.

Will be putting them into the oven in approximately one hour.

I truly enjoyed everyone's reminiscences of their exposures to music and record players yesterday.

As a toddler, I had a plastic record player that played 45s. The last time I played it, I was about 11 or 12.  I was going through the infantile recordings I had and fixated on "Teddy Bears Picnic".  I played it over and over for about an hour.  The day was hot.  We had no air conditioning.

I had, during the years of puberty, occasional "sick headaches".  That is what my mom called them, but they were a form of migraine.

That day, I developed one of those sick headaches and was bedridden by early evening and tended to throughout the night by my parents who would put a cold cloth on my brow, adjust the sweat-soaked sheets (or replace them), etc.

The worst thing about that particular headache was the ear worm that played over and over in my head;

If you go down to the woods today
You're sure of a big surprise
If you go down to the woods today
You better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today is the day the teddy bears have their picnic

I was allowed to stay home the next day and rest  My headache and fever broke early in the morning and I was exhausted.

I had the strength, however, to take that damned 45 and smash it to pieces.

When I was 13, I received a hi-fi (not stereo) for Christmas.  Included were a couple of 45s, one featuring Bing Crosby and the other had Hawaiian songs on it.  I have never understood the choices, but they were fine.  Over the next year, some inexpensive LPs were added, including the previously mentioned Strauss waltzes, but happily, I began expressing my interests in music to relatives who then gave me LPs for birthdays.

Among my treasures were a Mantovani recording entitled "Exodus" on the London label.  I loved that recording, especially a track from "Mr. Wonderful" which I knew nothing about except that it had been a Broadway musical.  Another joy was the original Chipmunks album (with David Seville and the Chipmunks).

My interests soon veered into music from films.  The first soundtrack i owned was Ernest Gold's "Exodus".

It wasn't until I was in the Navy and assigned to Italy (1973, the year I acquired my first serious stereo component set-up) that my ear was alerted to the splendors of classical music.  Some credit must go to Sir Alfred Ralston who included a great deal of Elgar in his score for Richard Attenborough's "Young Winston". It was there that I heard the first strains of the "Nimrod" suite from "The Enigma Variations".

After that, I pored over the classical sections of most military exchange record bins during the course of my career.

Today almost feels like a day off, with only an evening dress rehearsal.

I do have to run one errand, and I’ve got plenty to do at home. Much of it will be spent at the plastics, learning to play Matilda competently. There are some interesting sounds, and some good piano passages.
