Hot dogs for lunch. I got a cup of chili from Tommy's - two chili dogs and two mustard and onion. That's it.

Me wonders if our dear vixmom is ever going to write a Kritzer World review - it really shouldn't take five or six weeks to think about a review? Oh well, I guess we'll have to do without.

I just heard a bit of the new Merrily cast album - I just don't get it - a completely dead sounding recording - no room ambience - instruments and voices need air. That's what realistic reverb is for when you're recording in a dead room, which they clearly were. Best way to make a band sound small and for vocals to sound like they're in a small closet. It's all they do these days, at least the ones I've heard. I compared it to our Merrily recording and whichever cast one prefers, one has ambience and one doesn't and frankly if I were to remix ours I'd add a bit more.

I forgot to mention THE ORVILLE.  The fan base and good reviews kept increasing, still it was not renewed for a fourth season :(

Topic of the Day:

All That Glitters (this show had 65 episodes, but all in one season...it was a late night daily soap opera)

Firefly

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Hot l Baltimore

are the only ones that I can think of right now. :)

Never saw Firefly. Loved the others.

Tonight, I watched something totally extraordinary!

The Men's Free Skate at the 2024 World Figure Skating Championships ended tonight with the Men's Free Skate competition.

What looked like a shootout between Shoma Uno (first going into the program and world champion the past two years), Yuma Kagiyama (second going into the program and 2nd place in the past world championship) and Ilia Malinin (third going in and last year's 3rd place winner). Less than two points separated 1st place from 3rd place.

Uno skated first in the final grouping, and he was good but made mistakes that seemed to weigh on the rest of his program.  His final score put him into second place behind the French skater who had vaulted from 19th place to first place with his earlier free skate!

Next was Kagiyama and his skate was brilliant. he did have a fall that cost him one point, but he was in first place and, seemingly, the title was going to be his.  At best, I thought Malinin might finish 2nd, but also might place 3rd.

Malinin skated last.  All year, he has improved, but his component scores (artistry) have always suffered compared to his technical scores.  Both Uno and Kagiyama had high component scores, but Jason Brown's were higher than any all night and he was in fourth place at this time.

Malinin started out with his quad axel, the hardest jump to do.  He landed it first last year and has only trotted it out a couple of times this season.  He followed the axel with five more perfectly executed quads, two of which were in the second half of his program (which gave him an additional 10% boost to each jump's value).

To make a long story shorter, he finished the night with the highest technical score ever recorded, and his component score was rather high, as well.  He won the competition by 24 points, and he bested Nathan Chen's record combined skating score (224) by nine points (333).

It was a stunning skate, amazing to watch, breathtaking, in fact.

Here's a link to the full article, which should not be behind the paywall:

Thank you. I wish the Times had copy editors. The show is Kiss Me, Kate. Not Kiss Me Kate.

I wish all publications had writers/editors with a fundamental understanding of punctuation.  Sadly, the art seems to have no proponents currently working professionally.

DR John, Do you and your sister speak German?

My German sister does. :)

Actually, we all speak some, but the Americans among us aren't fluent.

TOD:

Capital News - 1990 - MTM Enterprises produced. ABC aired 13 episodes before cancellation.  Starred Lloyd Bridges, Michael Woods, Mark Blum, Helen Slater and Daniel Roebuck

The Associates - 1979 - ABC aired 9 of its 13 episodes before cancelling.  It fell victim to ABC manipulating its schedule to retain its top ratings.  It moved "Mork and Mindy" and lost ground.  Returning "Mork" to its original slot, it never recovered its audience as CBS shows captured a larger audience.  Despite glowing reviews, "The Associates" was cancelled without ever having a chance.  It starred Wilfrid Hyde-White, Martin Short, Alley Mills, Joe Regalbuto, Shelley Smith, and Tim Thomerson.  It was nominated for two Emmys.

Regarding The Associates: I forgot it was Wilfred Hyde-White. But they brought John Houseman in for one of the funniest episodes. I can still see the two of them going at it like school boys. Hilarious.
