Mark: I'm assuming I'm the ONLY birthday boy you know today, but we won't dwell on that. Thanks for the compliment. :D

I LOVE ALL THE HHW hotties!  I don't play favorites (although yes, I will admit that Mark is cute)

Now when is that calender coming out????

Will there be a special Birthday Boy page for Jason?

I would make an unseemly comment, Maya, about my very own Birthday Boy page, but I won't because it would be taken the exact opposite way than it was intended...

Just saw Idina do "Defying Gravity." I can assure you, the number is far more exciting in the theatre, but she and the rest of the cast were wonderful anyway. I can't be sure, but I think they were lip-syncing to the CD. I've heard rumor that Kristi is sick again...her throat infection has returned...so she didn't do the Letterman spot and was out of the show tonight, too.

Feel better, Kristi Chenoweth!!

Not librarian. Not lesbian. Not Lebanese. Not late for dinner. Libertarian, as in as in pushing towards a free-market economy, foreign policy of non-intervention, peace, and free trade and most importantly civil liberties and personal freedom. :)

Mark, hate to get all technical on you but libertarianism breeds anything but non-intervention and peace.  We have a very close to libertarian international system currently and clearly, are not very peaceful.

Nah nah nah nah boo boo to all you libertarians and realists.  I am systemic socialist.  Long live Systems Approaches to Intl. Relations!!!

And yes, this is what political science students talk about amongst one another.  :)

State socialism rocks.  That's why Sweden never goes to war.

Happy birthday Jason!

If you want, I'll talk to my aunt at the Canadian Consulate in NY for you.  They only hire americans for admin/temp jobs.   :)

(I know... I've asked for a job myself)

The definition of libertarian (granted more general with a lowercase "l" and not exactly the American political party) is "an advocate of the doctrine of free will; a person who upholds the principles of absolute and unrestricted liberty especially of thought and action"

Perhaps you don't live in quite the libertarian system you thought you did, after all? ;-)

Is it just me, or is the brief clip of "Defying Gravity" on the WICKED website far more goosebumpy than that version they presented on Letterman?

Just before Idina goes into her closing refrain these stupid soldiers show up for one line of uselessness and distraction.  Instead of thinking "wow - Idina rocks" I was thinking "who the heck are those soldier people?" :(

Mark,

call it what you will but I think the best defender of anyone's perceived "rights" are not individual's themselves, but rather democratically and popularly supported governments.

I also think that a major problem to libertarianism in any broad sense is that it can really only effectively be produced in states with homogeonous beliefs in what actually constitutes a "right". In some countries (the US for example) it is a "right" to own firearms.  In others (Egypt) it is a "right" for citizens to have access to free/low cost bread.

I think libertarianism is fine and dandy on a personal level - maybe even in small groups.  But it simply does not take into consideration the mutifaceted roles of individualism.

In short it has the same problems as communism - it is simply too utopian a society to imagine.

Yes, if you had been reading these here notes all along, you would know that I've had the DVD of Once Upon a Time in the West for three months.  It came out early in France and the UK (same exact content and transfer as the US DVD) - I've also had the US DVD for three weeks.  It's a great DVD, great transfer and the price for a two-disc set is under 14.99.  Can't go wrong.

Sorry, big brother. It should not be up to an elected official or government entity to look out for my best interests.

It's really very simple. Where governments exists, it must not violate the rights of the individual. I don't hurt you. You don't hurt me. If you hurt me, you're sent to Greenland. (Wink to Karmalicious)

Once again, I'm talking about Libertarianism with a capitol "L" as in the Libertarian Party of the U.S. Here our rights are fairly clear. They've simply been enforced poorly.
