I watched "Dune, Part Two" last night.
I thoroughly enjoyed part one, and part two was a continuation of the overall scope and beauty of the first, but...the film makers decided to change some of the book's story line. They obviously felt it needed a 21st century sensibility.
The character of Chani, portrayed by Zendaya, is the main change. In the novel, she becomes the love of Paul's life, marries him and bears him a child before he becomes the Kwisatz Haderach, the all powerful mahdi who sees both past and present and will control the universe.
In the second part of the movie story, however, Chani is ever at odds with Paul...seemingly more at odds than entranced with him. And they set the ending up so that Chani is a rebellious soul.
Another 21st century sensibility alteration is that the Fremen, the natives of Arrakis (the desert planet of Dune) have division within their ranks, with some classified as being from "the south", and having accents, and unlike the other Fremen, believing in mythology, all of which is unfolding in front pf them.
