Great story from vixmom, and what a genius way to get that flag removed. That last guy you talked to knew just who to dispatch to get the job done!

And while I am remarking about scams:

I am a DirecTV customer.  They have had several breaches of their records in recent years, but the thieves get names, addresses and phone numbers.

I always wondered what good they could make of such basic info.

I have had two (count 'em two) calls from men representing themselves as DirecTV employees.  They both wanted to inform me that new offerings were available, or there were specials, or -- in the latest call a couple of weeks ago --  a technical upgrade was needed for my DVR.

I said okay, so what do you need?  He again explained the upgrade and told me all I needed to do was turn off my TV.  It was already off.  He then embarked into what the upgrade would do for the quality of my video and sound, and that  with my approval, DirecTV would charge me $300 for the upgrade.

Now let me assure you I knew I was being scammed, but I just had to know where the scam was coming from.  My first clue on both calls is that the men were natives of India and have a rudimentary command of English but with no concept of syntax.

I laughed at the absurd notion that he expected me to pay extra, and I told him he was scamming me.  He protested and suggested i call the Better Business Bureau to verify that DirectTV is legitimate.

At that point, I suggested that he learn to speak English better before trying such a scam again. I hung up.

My question for ASK BK DAY.

Since you now have a nice Medicare Advantage Plan - you might see a doctor and maybe get prescriptions for your allergies and indigestion...your plan may even pay for them.  And you can say goodbye to the OTC products.

Excellent suggestion.

Wednesday afternoon greetings!  We have returned from the festive birthday weekend with our granddaughters.  We actually got home Monday after a grueling drive that included a 90-minute standstill on I-74 near Batesville, Indiana.

Yesterday we did some errands and attended a seminar Cincinnati about the healthcare benefits I receive as part of my retirement.

Too bad about the drive home, but it sounds like you enjoyed a really fun weekend!

We certainly did!  Charlotte turned 4 on Sunday and Hannah (our Flag Day girl) will be 2 on Friday.

And now back to the movie. Great supporting cast: Charles Coburn, Charles Laughton, Ethel Barrymore, Valli. But not liking Ann Todd. Gregory Peck seems miscast.

I have also mowed some grass and weeds.

And I've moved an appointment from next week into August, which made me happy.

It is sad what the flag has come to mean to many of us thanks to the "patriots" who feel the need to fly it everywhere.

This was not an American flag, this was an extremely large black flag emblazoned with the name of a candidate

Funny.  I am too used to the American flag being flown by his supporters and the proud boys driving their trucks with it their extra large flags.

Finished the movie. It was better than I remembered. But Gregory Peck's English accent was atrocious and distracting.

Three very strong reviews of Titanic. Glad to see it's being appreciated more this time around.

A lull.

During the lull, we had ice cream compliments of our community.  Apparently, once a month during the summer they invite a truck to cruise through the campus and dispense free treats to residents.  Otherwise, that kind of vending and soliciting are not allowed.

I had chocolate chip ice cream in a cake cone and Richard had a dish of vanilla with chocolate topping.  Sorry, no pictures.

Is it a cute ice cream truck with music that passes through?
