I've been down the Madeline Kahn rabbit hole this week. This morning I discovered a recording of her singing Vanilla Ice Cream and I wish I had been there.

I was very young when I saw it, but I remember having a great time!

The Times critic Richard Eder wrote a scathing review.

In the mid-1970s there was a pre-Encores attempt at Town Hall. The three shows were Knickerbocker Holiday, The Golden Apple, and She Loves Me, which starred Madeline Kahn, Barry Bostwick, and Rita Moreno.

Madeline also played Cunegonde in the 1968 Bernstein birthday concert of Candide.

Some folks I know on FB are also known by me to be Trump supporters.

This morning, they are attempting to be middle-of-the-roaders by acknowledging Trump's gas-bag bluster and phony appearance, but they continue to claim the country was better off under his presidency.

I simply don't know why anyone ever thinks this.  What on earth was better under his presidency?

Am I remembering right that Rex Reed was a really well-known celebrity back in the late 1970s?  Maybe even as well-known a critic as Siskel and Ebert?

I think he and Paula Prentiss were a wonderful movie team....and I loved his later tv work.

And of course I also like Timothy Hutton......
