Another movie on Amazon Prime (IIRC) is the Gwyneth Paltrow "Emma" with Jeremy Northam, Ewan McGregor, Toni Colette and Polly Walker.
Having seen several "Emma" adaptations over the years since the movie with Paltrow came out, I have very much enjoyed the various versions and actors involved in them.
My favorite has been the Romola Garai-Jonny Lee Miller version. Re-seeing Paltrow's last night did not challenge my favorite one bit.
My least favorite Emma, the character, was portrayed b Anya Taylor-Joy the 2020 theatrical version) who portrayed Emma in a way I did not find attractive at all. I would not have admired her in any way. While she has a certain pleasant look to her, she has no personal effervescence to recommend her. That film is saved by Johnny Flynn as George Knightly, Callum Turner as Frank Churchill, and Bill Nighy as Mr. Woodhouse, Emma's father.
The 1996 film with Paltrow is very good, but glosses over much of the story that the TV versions tell in detail. It was the first time I had seen Paltrow in a film, and I thought she did it well, but the film rather pales in comparison to the more detailed presentations I have seen. Still, it's fun to have so many versions available to watch and compare. Northam as Knightly and Walker as Jane Fairfax are both delightful.
