I generally hate using initials for musicals or movies or whatever. I far prefer using a short form of the title, just as one does in conversation. Merrily, Fiddler, Forum... it's 100% clear what those are, and they respect the actual title, which initials do not. Coming across SITPWG, MWRA, etc., even in context, tends to stop me in my tracks as I have to remind myself what in the HELL they stand for. Even the effort it takes (for me) just to type those is laborious and unintuitive.

No cat disasters last night, and I slept very well for about seven hours. Around 3:45 I woke to find all three cats curled up around me. I spent the last two hours trying to get back to sleep.

I have used the initials for shows, but in my defense (if it's defensible ), I usually will only use them if the full title, or a major word, has already been referenced.  I usually won't use the initials as the first reference of the title...usually.
