When I moved here in 1989, the place was rich in community and regional theeder. It still is, but we lost one excellent community group and - a greater loss for the region as a whole - a wonderful summer stock one, Candlewood Playhouse. A few years after I started going there, they were acquired by Gateway Something-or-other on Lawn Guyland, who then sold the jernt a few years after that, rather than make some necessary repairs to the property. Gateway, however, kept their own operation going on the Guyland, bless their little black hearts. A major supermarket sits on that hallowed ground, and there isn't a single time I pass through the major intersection there that I don't think of that playhouse.
As for the community group, they had residence in the large wing of a major church (a nice old one) for some years. They performed in the church's fellowship hall or whatever they called it. A few years later, the church decided they needed to reclaim the hall for their own use, and to have it available all the time, so that came to an end. The group at that point decided to disband rather than look for another home - which was sad, but the talent there remained active in the other regional theeders.
