I actually slept rather well last night. I had a bathroom break around 3:45 and when I went back to bed I had all th in bed with me. Annabelle cuddled next tro me and stayed with me until the alarm rang at 5:45. Stella never stays long, and Thatch nto regard my bed as his bed.

I had a strange dream in which I was doing two things at the same time. I cannot remember npow what one of them was, but I do remember it was something like a rehearsal, work on a project, something I generally do when I'm working. The other thing I was doing - which is so bizarre - was cooking Italian sausage with onions and peppers, something I have never made in my life.

Just before the alarm rang, I was dreaming about my friend Peter Foley who had been suffering for maybe the past ten years with an eye tumor that killed him three years ago. Peter had been one of my copyists at Toyland, and in the dream we were working on a concert of something - maybe his own music? - and he returned to me my miniature score for Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, which was slightly wet because he had just washed his hands. I was telling him something like "You could have returned it soaking wet if it meant you were with us again" when the alarm rang and woke me. I'm a bit melancholy at the moment.

I had a very good night's sleep.

When I got up and looked out a window, I was amazed that it seemed clouded over.

I went to the front door and looked out and we are socked in with a thick fog this morning.
