I did watch it, but I didn't pay as much attention as I should have.  It didn't seem to be as funny as other episodes (but don't let that stop you from watching it ;)).  I want to watch it again and not let myself be distracted.  And I didn't realize until I was watching it that it was the season finale.  I hope the DVDs come out soon!

Oh, no, I'll watch it tonight for sure.

After watching my soap (Cady Huffman made another appearance), it was time for RED GARTERS.

The movie looks wonderful, very bright and super-colorful. Though the score produced no standards, the songs are very entertaining and are sung quite wonderfully.

But poor George Marshall just had NO idea how to direct a musical. True, he guided Marlene Dietrich to great acclaim in DESTRY RIDES AGAIN which featured three songs and was a western, but a full blown musical is another entity entirely, and everyone in the background just stands around watching other folks sing. It gives the show a gracecless look and feel. Yep, I know it's a stylized western, but that's not stylization; that's just clueless direction.

But doesn't Guy Mitchell have a great voice! And Rosie's voice is as mellow as it's ever been.

And I'm sure Edith Head enjoying pouring Guy and Gene Berry into their very tight and physique hugging costumes. Many women and gay men in audience owe Edith a debt of gratitude.

You've just GOT to read this "National Geographic" piece...written ONE YEAR AGO.  It's eerily prophetic, and puts to rest any "story" anyone might tell you about whether FEMA realized a problem existed in New Orleans before Katrina hit.

http://www3.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0410/feature5/
I found a link to this at another site.  I was going to post, but I'm glad you beat me to it.

Now, if only there was anything to be glad about in the article.   :-\

And thank goodness Sepia has seen fit to reissue those wonderful cast albums from the late 1940s and early 50s making them available to us again in wonderful sounding mono.

My LP of TWO'S COMPANY had seen better days, and MAKE A WISH and SEVENTEEN/HIGH BUTTON SHOES were also none the worse for wear. Now, these brand new CDs can be enjoyed by another generation of theater music lovers.

Other than watching RENO 911! off the DVR, I don't have a clue what else will grace my TV tonight before VERONICA MARS. Might be more ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW episodes from Season 2.

..But it does have to do with theatre companies and directors hiring musical directors and assistant musical directors who can't play piano (as well as they said/thought they could).  I just had two more calls today, and that makes at least six offers in the past two weeks.  Whaddup widdat?!?!?;)
You're a New York City Girl now!  That means you must be available, right?

Back from numerous errands.  Picked up two lovely packages - one of the had another Sabata spaghetti western with Lee Van Cleef, and the other was from the DVD Academy, and I got this movie everyone seems to like entitled Crash.  I'll probably watch that this evening.

What's the chore of the day, DR MattH? I'm thinking I should follow your schedule.

Cleaning the den is today's chore. Since I spend a majority of my day in this room, it tends to need the most thorough cleaning, and this room usually takes me longer than any other.

All right, time to tackle the TOD.

If I were to change anything, it would be about attitudes.  Instead of putting people into labled groups, I would try to educate our youth to see people as individuals.  No more of this "Republicans are This/Democrats are That" stuff.  No more appropriating the label "Christian" by one segment of the religion, or labeling people as "Jews," as if that can only mean one type of person, and that they're all cookie-cutter identical.  Straight/Gay/Trans/Bi...why?  And, not least of all, none of this racial baloney.

How to do it?  Well, it's got to start in our schools.  But not in the way that it's being done now, where any mention of diversity is so often shushed because even mentioning differences is an admission that differences exist.  For example, I'd have Huckelberry Finn used as a reading text, when appropriate.  But I wouldn't shy away from the "n" word, as is done too often today.  I'd instead urge the teachers to show how the stereotyping is inappropriate.

The insistance on pigeonholing people into little labeled groups is destructive.  I simply want to see an end to it.  And if it takes a generation to change how we see ourselves and each other, then I'm willing to wait.

I'm just not willing to wait forever.

I'm viewing my VHS copy of Sarah Brightman in "Song and Dance" complete with Japanese subtitles!!  Anyhow, the transfer to CD should be ok, can't be any worse than the cassette I remember hearing a while back.

Just for a change of pace, this is something I found elsewhere...

Quote
The Ballad of Lime Jello
Words: David Bratman and Rael Starhand
Music: "Titwillow," by Gilbert & Sullivan
From The Westerfilk Collection, Volume One Copyright 1980 by Jordin Kare.

In a bathtub at Discon a famous pro sat
In lime jello, lime jello, lime jello.
And when when he got out, what got onto the mat?
Lime jello, lime jello, lime jello.

He poured himself out a humongous beer,
Then he said to himself, "This is mightily queer."
He yelled out to the hall, "There's an orgy in here,
With lime jello, lime jello, lime jello!"

His wife came back later, and what did she find
But lime jello, lime jello, lime jello?
On furniture, floor and venetian blind
Was lime jello, lime jello, lime jello.

The first thing she did was go out of her mind.
Then she said to him, "Dear, that was very unkind."
But that very evening, the two of them dined
On lime jello, lime jello, lime jello.

I'm kinda wondering what it was that DR S.Woody was searching for when he came across "The Ballad of Lime Jello."

Soft, supple skin, yet firm with determination?

Hair that is thick and bristly like a military brush?

Slightly coarse at the beardline?

Evening folks.

Sorry to have E & T last night.  I got the call that my locking gas cap for Bonnie came in and I had to go get it.  Fifty three bucks!  But the guy said that I was one of the lucky ones who managed to get one.  They are getting calls from all over for them.

Getting the thing attached was a whole other story.  I won't bore you with detail.  I got it.

And for some odd reason I am very, very, very tired this evening.  I feel so drained.

I got a good laugh yesterday when my cell phone started ringing (it plays Tubular Bells).  Someone asked my why I would pick that of all possible rings.  I told them it seemed the most logical ring in the world to me because if you ever look at a person talking on a cell phone, they look like they’re possessed.

I’m just giving you fair warning before I answer the thing.   :D  ;)
