Gretchen Cryer who wrote a musical with a similar name was married to David Cryer....they met while they were students at DePauw University.

Their son is Jon Cryer.

When David and his now wife - they met while doing a Broadway show with Ray Bolger - David told the story of when he was given an award at DePauw. He opened his acceptance speech by telling the audience how nervous he was because his first wife and his new wife were sitting side by side in the audience.

Back in 2012 I did THE CRUCIBLE with David and his wife Britt Swanson at DePauw.....they were such fun. He had just left the Broadway production of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA he had played one of the owners of the opera house on the road and on Broadway for many years.....

Britt told the story that when they were doing Come Summer with Mr. Bolger, Britt who was a featured dancer was backstage and stepped back to let someone pass - and stepped on Ray Bolger's foot. He laughed and said "Baby, watch that million dollar instep....it's money in the bank."

Britt also said that Ray would NEVER say a negative thing about anyone or anybody. If there was something he didn't like, he sent his wife Gwen to the producers to complain for him. So everyone loved him and hated her.....

Britt also told about working as a class assistant with Agnes DeMille - and at the end of the day - Ms. DeMille would give her a signed check filled out with the amount....and told her "You can fill in your name and rest of it....."

Britt said they got great reviews on the road but when they got into NYC - it was a disaster. And everybody blamed everybody else. She said it was the only show she ever did that somebody blamed the backdrops for its failure......

I interviewed Gretchen Cryer when she started a business selling frozen meals for housebound folks. The food was pretty good. She was fun to speak with.

Finishing up a dystopian novel called Lark Ascending. It’s by a Kentuckian named Silas House. It’s fairly interesting. The Fundies (fundamentalists) have taken over America sfter climate change has made it unlivable. The main character escapes to Ireland, which has just stopped taking in immigrants. Lark wants to survive. He meets a dog snd a mother figure. Together they hit the road for a supposedly better place.
