George must have fallen asleep. Or he went down some rabbit hole and decided to move in.

I went to my sister's again last evening, and by the time I got home, I was struggling to stay awake.  I thought I'd just take a short nap, but no!  I was totally out.

This morning, I am moving cautiously but moving, because of the leg and joint issues. I slept rather well, with one long dream about working at Barnes & Noble before Christmas. While the store was not packed with customers, the sales counter was swamped with people waiting to pay and no clerks, only the manager Patty and I. I was tied up with a lady who had around $500 worth of things ($200 in books and a $300 edition of something). The custom,er wasn't being diofficult butr she clearly hated waiting. I needed to go to the second floor for something so I left her hanging while I went. I encountered a customer who needed a bandage and sent him down to the checkout. When I got back downstairs, the bleeding custo, mer was there but we had no bandages, I left the paperwork of the $500 customer I was helping on the second floor . . . it was mess

Last night I watched for the first time in a very long one Douglas McGrath's too coy version of Miss Austen's novel Emma. When I first saw it in 1996, I enjoyed it, but it pales next to the Kate Beckinsale-Mark Strong and Romola Garai-Jonny Lee Miller adaptations. McGrath's screenplay nicely condenses the long novel to 115 minutes, but it's all too light and perhaps too influenced by the MGM film of Pride and Prejudice with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier, a film I loathe. The Beckinsale adaptation is 81 minutes but I feel it captures the novel much better.

I am not a Gwyneth Paltrow fan, so there's a problem, but I cannot buy Toni Collette as poor Harriet Smith or Ewan McGregor as Frank Churchill. I did like Sophie Thompson as Miss Bates, but Jeremy Northam lacks gravitas as Mr Knightley. He only comes into the role in the great "Very badly done, Emma" scene following the picnic at Box Hill. I'm happy I watched it again, but I'm happy I have two better Austen adaptations to watch as well.

Worst job…I think you all know I spent 12 year in slavery, too brainwashed to get out. Thank goodness for my co-worker that insisted I submit my resume to an employment opportunity she found. The spell was broken and I was released.

I made it to Mt. Pleasant, Texas. The motel was cheap and it’s awful.
