But, man, hearing a voice when you are alone in a room is spooky.

Elmore, hearing a squeak and a thud in the night when all the cats are accounted for is freaky.

That was a good story and not at all disappointing!

A cold front came through a couple of days ago, and the weather has cooled down nicely. Maybe our triple-digit heat is over for a few months now.

There was a "Halloween Blizzard" here back in 1991, with 2 feet of snow.

Must have been like what we had here in 2011 in terms of damage, unless that area didn't have the number and density of trees like this part of the world.

I paid some bills yesterday, too.

But nothing like what will be due once the calendar turns.

I talked to my 80 year old aunt - my mother's youngest sister - the only aunt/uncle I have surviving at this time.

She told me how much better my life is going to be if Trump gets back into office and that the only way he can lose is if the other side stuffs the ballot box - which they always do....

I just said we'll see......

My question for ASK BK DAY.....I think I know the answer from his books:

Did you take a typing class in high school?

Question for other DRs as well.....

I took two years of typing and really didn't think I would use the skill much in later life.....but with the rise of the computer it is a skill that I use everyday....opposed to say geometry and algebra.

DR Laura, I was prepared to steal "Ladder Goes Up and Down" for the title of an exciting chapter in my memoirs, but I shall probably have to settle for "Disappointing Conclusion Ahead" as having the ring of truth actually called for.

Thursday and Friday could have been two posts.

Got to get the hang of the productive HHW posting style.

When I was a tyke I taught myself to type fairly speedily with two fingers of each hand on my mother's ancient typewriter. Years later in high school I took a semester of typing and was amazed and excited to learn about the home keys and all, and I quickly became one of the best in the class. Years later still, I had a job in L.A. typing insane parts numbers and such into catalogs, for which we had to be proficient across the entire keyboard (letters, numbers, symbols, all of it), and I was eventually passing typing tests on IBM Selectrics at 110 WPM with one or two errors.

Now I sit here pecking out this post on an iPad with one finger.  Ah, progress!

I was a court reporter, though, and could record two-speaker Question and Answer dialogue at 240 wpm. Different machine, though.

Do tell! I know nothing about them, but I've long been totally fascinated with that whole process.

When I worked at Litton Industries corporate headquarters in Beverly Hills (late 1970s), there was one (count 'em) male secretary to one of the executives. He had been a court reporter, and he continued using his steno machine (is that what it's called?) on the job there in all matters of dictation. I always loved that.

But, man, hearing a voice when you are alone in a room is spooky.

Tell me about it!   I hear a voice calling my name once in a great while.  It sounds like my deceased mom, too.

Never quite sure if I dreamed it or if it woke me up.

When I first awakened this morning, it was quite foggy.  Couldn't tell if the sky was cloudy or not.

The sun has been beaming brightly since the fog burned off, so it looks to be a glorious day.

All of these libraries and bookstores have Reading Day. I don’t get it. It’s a fine industrial town and a renowned railroad, but whole days dedicated to it? Please!
