I had a restful sleep.

This morning, the eye shield is removed, drops put in and am dealing with wonkiness, but with a great deal of bright, colorful stuff I don't recall ever seeing before.

My eye is still dilated, and it will take time to heal before I can truly focus, but the sensation is extraordinary.

I am looking forward to having my left eye done the second week of December!  (I am a bit put out over having to have a colonoscopy in two weeks, but that is the cost of aging).

I have a post-op appointment at 11:40 a.m., and I am hopeful the doctor is pleased and gives me the go-ahead on resuming my normal routines.

The period between the two eye surgeries is valuable for really observing the differences. I was totally shocked at the greenish-yellow haze, or tint, in the uncorrected eye. The eye with the new lens saw our then-overcast skies as a beautiful pure blue-ish gray, while it was - literally - a greenish-yellow in the other. Indoor lights were whiter, even older incandescent bulbs.

And to think that I'd always prided myself on observing colors accurately. People told me that colors would appear brighter, etc., and I pooh-poohed that, thinking that the main problem with the cataracts was the inability to focus properly. It's really everything that's affected.

I later remembered noticing some years back that if I looked at something with one eye and then the other, one saw "colder" colors and the other one "warmer". With the two, though, I was happy in the assumption that that was the correct balance. Hah! That difference is completely gone now, something I could never have predicted.

TOD

I finally watched the documentary "Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger" on TCM last night. It really is excellent, and I think Martin Scorsese turns in one of his best jobs (among many) of relating film history. Of course he is very attached to this particular history, and it shows, in what he says and in the clips of each movie. Those films are stunning. There's really no other word for it. I then tried to stay awake for Colonel Blimp, but that wasn't happening. I'm not sure I made it a whole minute into the film.

Kristi, who's a Blair Witch fanatic, had me order the Second Sight limited edition set, and we watched the new 2 1/2-hour documentary (yes, that's two and a half hours, and it flew by) on the history of how it was conceived and came together one slow step at a time. I had no idea I'd find that as fascinating as I did, but it's a great telling and I now have incredible admiration for those guys. We still need to watch the restored movie itself, maybe tonight.

I didn't know about this! The Blair Witch Project got so badly under my skin that I had nightmares for over a month. That was my last horror film, but I would like this new set.

Be aware that these discs are Region B. I see that the big set with the book and all is out of stock (this thing is HOT), but they'll make more. You might want the standard edition with just the discs. I haven't heard yet if this is going to be released by anyone in the US.

When last seen, he was doing the hokey pokey.

Which is of course a show tune!  And that's what it's all about.
Here's "The Hokey Pokey" from the original New York cast recording of OIL CITY SYMPHONY
