Last night, thanks to DR John G, the cats and I decided to watch Eloise at Christmastime, which I was surprised to find charming and untimatelymoving. Even with padding, Julie Andrews is way too pretty for Hillary Knight's wonderfully drawn Nanny. I loved Gavin Creel and wish he were still around to record The Prince in Jubilee. I particularly loved his "Winter Wonderland" with Eloise. The dog was perfect casting.
My first NY trip was the Christmas break, 1966, and the slush when you stepped off the curb was higher than your ankles. Perhaps it's that first trip that makes NYC in December and January the only place I ever want to live in. Given all my cuirrent mobility issues, I haven't been too crazy about living in New York, but the movie reaffiormed my love for this amazing city.
