We're back from a delightful trip to Baltimore to see family for the holidays. The organic fair trade dark chocolate Hanukkah gelt was well received. This is the first time I can ever recall Hanukkah starting on Christmas, though I'm sure it's happened before.

I've been listening to the 1990s studio cast recordings of Gershwin musicals, which often then lead me back to the early 1920s recordings. And I have a question which maybe someone here can answer?

So Gertrude Lawrence introduced "Someone to Watch Over Me" in Oh, Kay! She made two recordings around that time: one in New York in 1926 and one in London in 1927.

But in both recordings she sings something different in the final "Won't you tell him, please, to put on some speed" stanza. It sounds something like "Won't you tell him all my love I will save" to start, though it could well be something else.

Would anyone know what those lyrics are?

The US recording:

The UK recording:

The US recording ends with a repeat which then ends with the "And this world would be like heaven if he'd" stanza listed as the "male version" in the Ira Gershwin lyrics book. It's the one before that which puzzles me.

Thanks for any help!

I did a search and found this "According to the Associated Press, the last time Hanukkah began on Christmas Day was in 2005. This now marks the fourth time this has happened since 1900"

Listening to Gertie is not my favorite thing in the world. I much prefer Julie as Gertie.

Fred MacMurray was never better. Stanwyck was brilliant. Edward G. Robinson was perfect. The script, the cinematography, the Rosza music (almost Puccini). Everyone at the top of their game.
