To answer Freddie’s question, some restaurants are closed, others are open. I suspect everyone is playing it by ear. We don’t know when the winds will be gone and the fires contained.

We will need a MAJOR donation effort. I read that the LAPD doesn’t have enough supplies, and, of course, the shelters will need food, clothing, blankets, and so on. I don’t know how well we were prepared, either. But I like Mayor Karen Bass. We shall see.

So many people without.  I hope most of them have family and friends to help them.

Heartbreaking.  I hope you can avoid breathing the bad air.

I have the air purifier on full-time. It hasn’t been noticeably bad indoors. I haven’t gone outdoors today, both to avoid bad air and to help keep the roads clear.

Excellent.  If you go outside your covid masks should help some.

The windy wind  has calmed down again.

Keep reporting this.  Do you know how fast the wind is?

My brother said is first choice to eat last night was closed.  They walked to another restaurant and it was opened.  I don't know what they did for dinner tonight.

Yes, I hope people are pulling out their masks.

Did he have to evacuate?

I haven’t seen a lot of updates. The nature of the news business or nothing’s changed?

Not that I know of.  I saw that Kamala Harris's home is in the evacuation area but I'm sure she doesn't live near my brother.

She has a home here? I didn’t know that.

The news goes for the big headlines and I haven't found much on his area.  I consider that good news because if the shopping area of Brentwood was buring the news would report it.

The son-in-law of a friend of mine is driving, along with two other firefighters, his fire truck from Colorado to LA to help out.

Remember that the news crews can’t get access to every area. But I haven’t heard of the fire reaching your brother’s area.

I remember that matchbook.

Red with gold letters, I recall.

Yes indeed it was!

And THANK YOU!!!!! Is that their actual recipe, or you've just figured it out yourself? It sure sounds right on!

Chas, I found the recipe on an L.A. food blog that I once followed.

“Recently I was craving the Cheese and Onion Pie from Cafe Swiss the long-gone restauran once located at 450 Rodeo Drive. I used to eat there with my Nana and Papa Warner and always ordered the same thing. Cafe Swiss originally opened in 1950 and closed in 1985. The beautiful back patio was the scene of many wonderful lunches for me and my grandparents. The continental fare was peppered with some typical Swiss dishes and the Cheese and Onion pie has remained in my heart (and probably arteries too) forever. Here is the recipe. Enjoy!”

Do they still have Snow Cones?

We call them raspas and they’re sold everywhere around town. Love ‘em.

We call them snowballs, and they are often layered with vanilla or chocolate frozen custard. 😋
