I like Helen Mirren in most everything she does....but a particular obscure favorite is her turn as Ayn Rand in a tv movie The Passion of Ayn Rand.

She plays the title character having an affair with a young writer Nathanial Branden based on an interesting book by Barbara Branden, his wife. It was published shortly after Rand's death....and it was not flattering to anybody.

The writing on Route 66 got pretty bad in Season Three.

George Maharis had missed many episodes of Season Two - being sick and all - so a lot of times Tod would just call him on the phone and ask how he was doing....we didn't see Buz or hear his voice.

Maharis returned at the beginning of Season Three - but was only around for a few episodes....sick again.

Glen Corbett was eventually hired on as the new co-star and Maharis was never mentioned again.

It didn't work and I think the writing is mostly to blame....and the series was gone after Season Four.

I keep thinking of young actors of the time who might have been able to make it work...and I'm thinking Gary Conway or Rad Fulton would have been good.

Later Maharis said that he wasn't sick - he just thought he was being overworked and he didn't like the writers or the directors....so he doubled the work on Martin Milner...and all of the rest of the crew who had to keep going.

The producers gave his character echovirus.....most commonly spread through contact with fecal matter.....which tells us what the producers thought of Maharis and his antics.

I received a text last night from my Discover Card provider asking about a transaction they had denied in or to Mediapolis. I said no I had not made it.....

So I had to call and cancel the card and a new one is on the way....in 14 days.

The only time I had used my card was in the Bradford Exchange mix up from last week. I think it is more than a coincidence that one week after I canceled my membership in that shady company that my card was compromised.

Avoid Bradford Exchange.

It was too cold to get out of bed this morning, so I slept in and cuddled with Annabelle and Thatch until 6:30. Missy Belle did not attempt any leaps into the bookcases last night but slept next to me on her princess pillow. This morning she'sd been very clingy and affectionate.

DR ChasSmith, thanks for your comments about aging cats yesterday.

DR John G, I am so sorry about your friend. The onl;y positive thing I can think of is that Jimmy Carter was in hospice care for a year. I have no idea if that's any comfort for your friend. Or his friends and you.
