I too watched a turd of a movie last night: Becoming Ms. Bennet also known as Pride and Prejudice, Cut. Like the musical Birds of Paradise, in which the cast rehearsing Chekhov's The Seagull are living Chekhov's plot, the cast of a new film version of Miss Austen's comic novel are living the plot. There were two real problem with the film: the screenplay and the cast, most of whom were unknown British actors who may remain so. As to the screenplay, oy!, a particular mess when the actors are rehearsing scenes for Pride and Prejudice, in which the dialogue is a curious mix of mangled Austen and contemporary English.
