John I was happy it is supposed to be 50 today.  Seventy sounds heavenly.
It's warm out there, but the fog is so thick, you'd think you were in London.

Hope your mom is able to return home today.

Well, most likely not.  She's going to talk with a surgeon because I guess it looks like surgery is the better option. :-\

DR George, I hope everything turns out well for your mother.

When casting this show, I insisted that if anyone had major conflicts, not to audition and/or clearly list them. And we cast accordingly. Today, Doug gets an email from one of our ensemble gals - Oh, I'm shooting a movie (sure she is) next week but I "think" I'll be able to get to rehearsals on time. Oh, and I'm out of town after that for eleven days. I mean, what is WRONG with people. Doug said, "I don't know how to reply to this email." I said, "Reply thusly - nice knowing you."

I asked one director friend, who routinely has to do his own scheduling at the small theeders, how that's been working at the large one he's recently directed at. They're non-union but are very high profile and professional (the productions he references were stunning):

"Oh I still had a great deal to do with the schedule, but for Cabaret and Guys and Dolls it was split three ways between myself, the MD and the choreographer. For Sweeney it was between me and the MD and I gave him first dibs because obviously the music is the most important thing about that show. He worked out the scheduling he wanted and I worked around it."

"But they are extremely strict about scheduling. People have to tell all their conflicts at auditions, and before they sign their final agreement/contract they have to confirm any new conflicts. No conflicts are allowed after the contract is signed unless it's something that can be worked out between the performer and the directors. They've made it clear that if they miss a rehearsal for a non-scheduled conflict they will be let go from the show. So that makes scheduling a lot easier. This last time we had options, especially in the ensemble, so if someone had too many conflicts we would ask them if they could get rid of some of them and if they couldn't then we simply didn't cast them."

Edit:  So they've got it together. At the small venues, it is HELL.

I had an appointment in Aiken SC today to get my new CPAP...the ResMed11 with the N20 nose cap.

One other person was there, as well, and most of the training was directed at him although my new machine required me to listen, as well, as some things are different from my ResMed10.

Since they were right next doot to a Papa Johns, I stopped in for some garlic pamesan wings which I will soon begin munching upon!
