I just remembered my very weird dream, for which I can at least blame DR MichaelG for starters:

A director friend was telling me that Verdi's Otello was an upcoming project for him (which couldn't be farther from reality), which somehow led me to telling him that a personal project of mine this year was to study (apparently not perform, just study) Verdi's La forza del destino. This conversation took place as we were walking toward the bus we were to take to get back (to Danbury? who knows?) from this convention or some kind of special event we were at. Once on the bus, however, that thread began to deteriorate, and while I can't yet put my finger on what the next part was about (my being on the right bus? finding my way? finding my money?), I know that the idea of those two operas remained as sort of a central focus of the dream. Utterly bizarre.

Other details have vanished, but I think it's one of those that might come back to me little by little through the day.

TOD:  My first memory of being on the internet was a chat area called Saturday Review Online.  IIRC, an actor named Jerry James was kind of a moderator of the Theater section.

I must have had email before that, because using it needed an email address.

I'd guess it was around 1995?

Rodzinski, did you ever post what happened yesterday that made it a bad day?

I didn’t want to dump it all out but there’s some sort of norovirus outbreak at the in-laws’ facility, and dad in law wouldn’t get out of bed, so he got sent to hospital. Then mom in law, who refuses to eat enough real food or drink water, fell last night. Now she’s in the hospital. My own left shoulder blade muscles have been incredibly sore. So those are the main issues.

I started grad school in Ohio and suddenly the internet was a thing. They even made us get an email account. What do I need this for? The tyranny! But it all worked out.

FYI, for me, and others like me (yes, there are a few), the World Wide Web isn't "the internet". It's now the major portion of it, but there have been, and still are, other "protocols" (if I'm using the word somewhat correctly) and other ways of being online and using that big ol' Information Superhighway (remember that?).

My start was "America Online" in 1986, when that was a Commodore Computer-only service. My first modem for my Commodore 128 got me on there and on a few local "bulletin boards" for computer user groups, weather, and other informational stuff. "America Online" became AOL, and there was Prodigy, and Compuserve, and being able to log on to libraries and other institutions. But these still weren't the Web. When the guy whose name I forget at the moment actually created the Web interface, that's what eventually became adopted by one and all. And that was concurrent with the government/military/university internet becoming opened up to the general public. But to this day, there are other things out there that ride along on the internet. One example, I'm still a member of a BBS in New York City, a text-based system of conversational activity that runs on UNIX and has nothing to do with the Web at all. But yes, most people only know the Web, and that therefore is "the Internet".

My sister was on this new fangled inner web and I watched her do some searches, etc.

Anyway I paid $1000 for a computer - I had had a Tandy computer for some word processing and games, but it was too slow for the innerweb.

My brother in law took me to some store and I paid $99 for a computer disc to join FreeWeb and had a separate phone line installed - dial up modem.

And I was on the inner net.

My first home page & email was at Yahoo.  My first signed up website was EBAY.

I found lots of websites about movie stars and figured out how to save pictures and send emails.

It was fun.  I remember buying lots of things on EBAY and having to buy a money order to send for the items....and then PAYPAL!!!!

DR Laura and I can understand one side of these temps:

Rio de Janeiro recorded its hottest day in at least a decade when temperatures on Monday reached 44 degrees Celsius (111 degrees Fahrenheit) — about 145 degrees warmer than Bismarck, North Dakota — as residents flocked to the ocean to try to cool off.

I would assume the 145-degree span is Fahrenheit, since that much in Celsius is vastly greater.

So, the doctor said to isolate for five days. I don’t need paxlovid. I just need to rest.

That sounds like a pretty good action plan.

Eggs, eggs, eggs. Just saw an article on Ina Garten’s secrets for a better egg salad. (“She’s got eggs/And she knows hiw to use ‘em,” as ZZ Top used to sing.) And there’s a scene in Caligula in which he and his court throw eggs at the heads of prisoners who have been buried up to their necks.

Blue Moon about Lorenz Hart will be screened tonight in Berlin. Cautiously optimistic.

Ethan Hawke trivia from Wikipedia:
"He is a second cousin twice-removed of Tennessee Williams on his father's side."

Thanks for that link!

Interesting from that article about the casting of Ethan Hawke as Lorenz Hart:
"Ethan Hawke undergoes a unique physical transformation to give a theatrical but never overplayed performance as a five-foot-tall, sexually ambiguous alcoholic perched precariously on the wagon."
