Because we had no hoain yesterday, the apartment was freezing by 8:00, so the cats and I went to bed and buried ourselves in blankets and quilts. I wokearound 10:30 for a batrhroom break, and again around 1:30. Then I slept well to 4:00, and went back to sleep till the alarm rang. The cats, probably because it was too cold to move, behaved.

I've still not done the laundry, and I'm postponing it again today. I have no urge to sit in an unheated basement for 90 minutes while the washers do their thing. I will take the recyclables and garbage down and hold off on the laundry until the weekend until the temperatures are in the high 30s and low 40s.

I'm not too electronically savvy, so I wonder:  When there's no heat for the building, would there be heat for the dryers in the laundry room?

If so, maybe the laundry room (with the dryer running) would be a warmer place to hang out than the rest of the building.

DR JohnG, I enjoyed the two Blue Moon reviews.  Lorenz Hart remains my favorite lyricist, and the film sounds very interesting. I'm sure this excellent book was very helpful to the screenwriter, since it really covers complicated relationship of Rodgers & Hart in the late 1930s when Rodgers became more frustrated over Hart's personal issues. The interviews in it make it clear that 20-30 years after Hart's death, Rodgers still had a hard time coping with Harft.

For the record, one of the two authors, Jan Clayton, was the original star of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Carousel.

In 1994, the first serious, more objective biography on Hart by N olan was published - The Marx-Clayton book from the 1970s was quite good, but clearly a sympathetic look at Hart and a hatchet job on Rodgers - and it was followed in 2013 by a good look at Hart and his work.

I can't work the food pantry today. Those folks will be frozen this morning when they have to bring in all the food.

Tonight I will be attending a dinner gathering of my work colleagues. Attendance is not required, but it is politic. Oh yes, it is politic.

Thanks, Elmore. I love paging through the complete lyrics, too. I didn't know about Jan Clayton's book.

Meryle Secrest is really tough on Rodgers for his treatment of Hart, as she should be.
