There is nothing more humbling than to be a woman of a certain age shopping for a dress.

Irritating. And disrespectful.

TOD:

I don't have any true favorite Oscar nights, although I loved it when "The Sound of Music" won for 1965, and when Streisand tied Hepburn for best actress of 1968.

The last full Oscarcast I watched was when "LOTR: Return of the King" won 11 Oscars.  Since then, it has been mostly of casual interest or...simply "meh".

I agree, Ron. I’m more interested in the Tony Awards, but even that isn’t so interesting anymore.

I loved the Oscars when the likes of Johnny Carson (first and foremost) and Billy Crystal hosted. There were other good ones along the way, but those guys ruled. For me, the 1970s through 1990s were prime years for the show - and for the general public's interest in it and reception to it. And it really was a springtime celebration, of sorts, even in L.A., as opposed to the late winter hell theyve consigned it to. And there was something so "right" about it being held at the Dorothy Chandler or the Shrine.

I likewise liked the Tonys more before the Radio City years. I loved that recent year when it was held in the older theeder uptown. But I also agree that the Tonys, too, are so much less interesting on the whole  these days.

Well, I'm back at it tomorrow, with a SpongeBob band rehearsal in the afternoon immediately followed by a Mermaid dress rehearsal in the evening.

Tony Curtis is doing a Gary Grant impression in a 1929 setting, before the world knew who Cary Grant was. And it doesn’t matter at all.

Orry-Kelly earned his Oscar for Marilyn’s nude dress with the open back alone.

James Carville, for those who know who he is, has predicted that the Trump administration will collapse within 30 days.

It was basically a documentary/love letter film, following him around as he met with various celebrities,  Better Midler, Roseanne, Billy Crystal, Whoopie Goldberg, Robin Williams were all prominent,  as well as Bruce's mom.
