I'm beyond overtired and when I get an hour of sleep I'm in danger of losing my voice if I'm not careful. I must be in bed by midnight, right after I post the notes.

Of course, she of the Evil Eye is coming at eight-thirty - it's always that way.

And then it's a rehearsal, so no time to really even nap.

Listening to the two Mendelssohn concertos for two pianos and orchestra. I absolutely love the sound of two pianos, and this is with Gold and Fizdale, the first duo-piano team I heard with Dave Brubeck's Points on Jazz ballet. I mean, I knew and really liked Ferrante and Teicher and had all their albums, but one of my favorites was the leaner off-Broadway album they did. But Gold and Fizdale were wonderful.

But at least it was a live performance.  Shania Twain recorded a song called "From This Moment On" and TWICE within the studio recording, she breathed in the middle of the word, "becau- [breath] -se of you..."  Even Bryan White, who's featured in the song, breathed in the same place both times.  Here's the moment (see what I did there?? :) ):

Bruce V tells funny stories about working on the Donny & Marie Show. Wonder BK, if you crossed paths ever in that setting.

So this YouTube video short just randomly came into my feed.  It's a kind of a feel good story:

No update on your electric issues, Dear G?

Not yet.  I'm going to try flipping the breakers again, but I think I'll need to <GASP!> call an electrician.

Yeah if it’s not breakers or the switch on one of your outlets, an electrician is the only way to go.

AND I just realized tonight that the power outlet in my powder room downstairs is ALSO out!  The light in the ceiling works, just not the outlet on the wall. ::)

I liked it fine. Except for Ariana's opening "Somewhere o [big breath] ver the rainbow...."

But did you feel it rivaled Aretha Franklin's much-discussed long breath between the syllables of "country" at Inauguration Day 2009

Aretha Franklin - "MY COUNTRY 'TIS OF THEE"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NqszdLiJxg

I don't mind that nor the Oscar performance so much because they were live performances and anything can distract people from their technique.  The Shania Twain song was just wrong because it was a studio recording...but that's just me. ;)

Today is my co-conspirator Joshie's birthday. I wish him a long healthy, wealthy, and very happy life.

A Very Happy (but slightly belated) Birthday to Joshie! :D

No one teaches this current crop of pop singers two important things to remember:
    1. Where and when to take a breath and never between syllables unliss it's clearly intentional
    2. The meaning of what you sing is more often more important than your vocalizing

I'm not saying Ms Ariana is guilty of both of these charges, but too many pop singer are.

I agree!  I was in choirs from seventh grade through five years of college.  We really learned when (and when not) to breathe.
