Waiting for Mr. Rushdie. Security is mixed. We ushers were not screened. The guests will be. Tickets were apparently from $10,000 to $25,000 a table.

That seems wrong that the ushers weren't screened.

Very surprised that the ushers were not screened.

He has every reason to be extremely paranoid.

I agree.

Wow!  How many at a table?

Is it a non-profit benefit?

10 at a table. Nonprofit.

John G, this sounds like a wonderful event!
Will you be attending the luncheon as well? Wondering what will be served.
Or is it a “literary” luncheon only?

The 2025 Book Appétit Literary Feast will take place March 5, 2025 (Tobin Center for the Performing Arts) and feature Salman Rushdie, author of Knife and Midnight’s Children.

The Book Festival’s singular fundraising event is the Book Appétit luncheon—a literary feast that kicks off the Festival. Featuring a prominent author(s), the Book Appétit luncheon offers guests a unique opportunity: a special presentation by the distinguished author. Past featured authors have included comedian Paula Poundstone, Pulitzer Prize winners Ron Chernow and Lawrence Wright, National Book Award winner James McBride, renowned poet Naomi Shihab Nye, bestselling author Ann Patchett, and acclaimed journalist Alfredo Corchado.

Thanks, Iris, for finding this.
