We just got back from a quick visit to the Boston area for the memorial service of a dear friend. He had been ill with cancer and we had heard about his move into hospice a couple weeks before he died. So it wasn't a shock, but it was sad.

The service was held at their church and the church was full. Church was more his wife's thing than his, but he attended every so often to make her happy.

The pastor knew him personally which I think makes all the difference in these type of church memorial services. He even did some very good impressions of our deceased friend, in a very loving manner.

The pastor had originally started in music ministry before becoming the pastor at this church, and he leads the music in the services as well. Our friend was impressed with the music one day and sent the pastor an email calling him the "Elton John of Billerica."

So at a later service that our friend attended, the pastor dropped in a little 4-bar prelude quoting "Your Song" before one of the hymns - he demonstrated to us.

Fortunately we saw our friend when we were back in Boston this December, and we are so glad we got the chance to visit in happier circumstances.

On the plane out I watched A Complete Unknown and on the way back I saw Juror #2. I enjoyed both of them a lot.
