Guess we gotta carry it over the line ourselves.

Well, Jose, glad to hear the rain has finally stopped. It was getting surreal.

Do they still have bank drive throughs where you put your deposit inside a little canister and it gets sucked over to the teller somehow. I always loved that as a kid. It seemed so "modern." But I realize now I never got to experience that as an adult due to the rise of ATMs.

It would be cool to own one of those cannisters.

Yup.  My credit union still does that.  Actually, my sister's credit union (a totally different one) uses those things, also.  And it was an integral part of the show "Futurama."  (I love that show!)

Thanks George. I didn't want to go to bed without acknowledging your response. Glad to hear the cannisters are still in action. Now steal one for me! (Kidding... kidding)

In the mail today, I got two Region-2 DVDs from amazon.co.uk.  "Educating Rita" and "Shirley Valentine."  Neither are available in the U.S. on DVD.  I knew that they were both based on plays, but I didn't know that both plays and both screenplays were by Willy Russell (who also wrote Blood Brothers) and that both movies were directed by the same director, Lewis Gilbert.  The best part was that they were each only £4.23 and including shipping, only cost $22.26! :D

The bad part is that I didn't read the user comments before I bought "Shirley Valentine."  If I had, I wouldn't have gotten it.  The transfer looks like it was copied from a videotape, it's full-frame AND it has dubbed lines!  Evidently, when the movie was released in the U.S., some lines that were considered "too British" were dubbed with American references.  This DVD, a Region-2 DVD for sale in the UK, for the British market, has the U.S. dub.  How dumb is that??  The one that I noticed when I was just checking it out was some reference to a Ford and you could very easily tell that she was not saying the word "Ford."  The overdubbing is poorly done and the overall sound quality is not very good. :P The packaging is real nice, though...it makes you think that it's been cleaned up and all.  It has a cardboard cover with a lovely picture and the plastic keep-case inside that (you can see it in the amazon listing), but the movie itself looks old.  Oh, well. :-\

I haven't checked "Educating Rita" much, but at least it is in it's proper 16:9 aspect ratio, even though amazon.co.uk says that it's "full frame" (which I also didn't notice ::)).

Used to eat at Sambo's as a kid, never ate at Po' Folks, although my parents used to now and then, and got a bumper sticker put on the car while they had breakfast....they never went back after that.  It wasn't the name change, it was the involuntary bumper stickers.

Always wondered how Willy Russell could end up writing such sh*t as "Blood Brothers".
Think both the DVDs are available in OZ George. Certainly "Rita" is less than $10A.

I have a couple of friends who were house-mates (strictly platonic) and I loaned them the CD with Kiki Dee.  They went to New York and saw it on Broadway and one of them loved the CD and hated the show, but the other hated the CD and loved the show.  As BK says, that's what makes horse racing.
