The bad part is that I didn't read the user comments before I bought "Shirley Valentine." If I had, I wouldn't have gotten it. The transfer looks like it was copied from a videotape, it's full-frame AND it has dubbed lines! Evidently, when the movie was released in the U.S., some lines that were considered "too British" were dubbed with American references. This DVD, a Region-2 DVD for sale
in the UK,
for the British market, has the U.S. dub. How dumb is that?? The one that I noticed when I was just checking it out was some reference to a Ford and you could very easily tell that she was not saying the word "Ford." The overdubbing is poorly done and the overall sound quality is not very good.

The packaging is real nice, though...it makes you think that it's been cleaned up and all. It has a cardboard cover with a lovely picture and the plastic keep-case inside that (you can see it in the amazon listing), but the movie itself looks old. Oh, well.

I haven't checked "Educating Rita" much, but at least it is in it's proper 16:9 aspect ratio, even though amazon.co.uk says that it's "full frame" (which I also didn't notice

).
