DR GINNY it's all rain here, but snow predicted for later for us and MORE for you.

It doesn't seem to be improving any here and my fear was that I'd get to work and be told the library was closing and have to turn around and drive back home.  Thank goodness for accumulated comp time!

Good morning!

We had sleet and freezing rain this morning which coated the trees and has been making the lights flicker all morning.

It's now turned to rain which has been pretty non-stop since I got up a little before 8 this morning. It is VERY cold outside and a very raw day overall.

Usually My friend John and I have lunch together on Thursday, but I'm not sure what the plans are now. Time will tell.

I know I have had food poisoning but it was so many years ago I don't remember it well...other then it was painful and unpleasant.

It was a bit chilly here in Salem this morning also...19 degrees and a bit frosty!

Digger the dog is staying with me for the weekend. Freddy is not thrilled, but is dealing with.

I had food poisoning once. I put some tainted mushrooms in my spaghetti sauce and got violently ill. I basically threw up all night and then was so weak for the next two days that I couldn't eat anything and felt queasy for a couple more days after that. It REALLY is something you don't want to have happen to you.

I feel sure Universal (don't they own Paramount's films from this period?) will eventually get around to Marlene Dietrich's films. Of course, they've farmed out THE SCARLET EMPRESS to Criterion, but I can't believe they won't eventually release MOROCCO, SHANGHAI EXPRESS, and BLONDE VENUS. I have the latter two on laserdisc in a combination package and enjoy watching them, especially BLONDE VENUS.

Still no word from Amazon about those DVDs and other things ordered for gifts, so I'll finish MOONRAKER today and then start something else. Don't know what at this point.

Back to Dietrich for a minute. Didn't someone release THE BLUE ANGEL in both German and English a few years ago. I don't have it, but I thought I read something about it.

DR Vixmom,

The e-mail you sent me yesterday JUST arrived! It's going to take 10 minutes to download with my slow dial-up connection, but thanks.

I just caught up on  yesterdays' posts and saw your post saying you hadn't gotten it, so I checked my "sent" files and saw  that I had put in too many "t"s in your address!

So I resent it.  Maybe it will make you feel better about your ice storm!

If youcan figure pout how topost the pictures here please do, it's a hoot!

I just can't figure out how to do it.

If any one wants to see a slide show of a ice storm in Wisconsin send your email address to dmann@cblawyers.net  and I'll  forward it to you as well.

Picture it: I was home from college for Thanksgiving/Fall break. We had been to my Grandmother's house for dinner on Thanksgiving proper, but the next night we had a big dinner at our house with various and sundried aunts & uncles. Part of that dinner included fried pork tenderloin, which was a little chewy but tasted just fine.

Cut to four hours later. I'm putting up the Christmas tree in the living after everyone has gone to bed - I wanted to surprise them with it when they woke up. The tree was finished and I was about to lay down on the sofa to go to sleep (my aunt & uncle were in my room), when I started feeling a little dizzy and nauseated. Before I knew it, I was in the bathroom in the downstairs hallway puking my guts out. My dad heard me and came in to hand me a warm, wet washcloth. I told him I was fine and he went back to bed.

I wasn't fine. I puked all night long. Before I knew it, I could hear my dad in the master bathroom - he was puking, too. Then I heard my brother get up and go to the upstairs bathroom. Again, puking. It started to look and sound like a British farce - doors opening and closing in succession, people running around in a vomitous haze. The only one of us who didn't eat the pork was my mom and she was fine. Everyone else seemed to get better in a day or two, but I was sick the rest of the weekend. I couldn't keep anything down - not even water - so I spent the rest of my Fall Break in bed. Or in the bathtub. Quite a miserable experience - I thought I was going to die - and at the time, I wished that I would!

DR Jason, your experience sounds exactly like what happened to me. Yep, even water made me nauseous. I think I sipped some Coke during those two days to try to settle my stomach, but I have never, ever felt so weak and at death's door.

Well it may be food poisoning at BK's, but here it is the TB ward, with two kids sounding like chorus members in that well-known musical version of Camille, Hack!   8)

This is their second day home from school and it is beginning to show (at least as much on Betsy and me as on them, LOL).

I believe BK claimed to have gotten food poisoning from the Boca Burgers he was served here in Portland a while back.  That'll teach him.   ;)

MR BK - is your play set in the today and now - or is it set in the past....or what?  Are you going to have some nifty costumes?

Good Morning!

Tonight is Opening Night of Damn Yankees...

The snow started about an hour ago...

Schools are closing early - at least the ones that actually decided to open this morning...

Metro will be starting their "rush hour" at 1:00pm today instead of 3:00pm...

The snow is supposed to turn to sleet and freezing rain later this afternoon, and eventually all to rain...

The temps tonight are supposed to be in the upper 20s and lower 30s, so the roads are most likely going to get icy...

-Did I mention that it's Opening Night of Damn Yankees?

We shall see...

As for the Topic of the Day...

The only time I remember getting sick-sick from food poisoning was New Year's Eve/Day four years ago.  It was during the run of South Pacific at Arena Stage.  I headed home after the show to spend New Year's Eve at home by myself - much similar to the way BK spends his NYEs.  Well, I decided to order some Domino's - a small pizza and some chicken wings.  Well...

Around 4:00 in the morning, my stomach just started not feeling well.  I didn't feel like throwing up initially, so I just thought it was a very upset stomach (from the combo of pizza and chicken wings at midnight).  I even went to the bathroom a few times to "try" to throw up since the pain just felt so bad.  Well, eventually around 5:30 that morning, I had no choice in the matter.

Thankfully, we only had an evening show that New Year's day - usually we have a matinee too.  I was able to catch up on sleep during the day.  I also called my stage manager, and she walked me through my diet for the day - Gatorade.  I needed liquid to keep me hydrated and to replenish some of my electrolytes and things like that.

I made it into the show that night, and I even remember taking a nap during intermission underneath the keyboard.  ...And by the next morning, I was feeling almost back to normal.  Whew!

Happy New Year To Me!

Break legs tonight, Jose - just not on any ice!!

DR Jason - Thanks.

I have a feeling our Opening will go on as scheduled tonight, but since Metro will actually be running on a special schedule as of this afternoon, things could change.  Arena usually bases their cancellations on what the Metro system does.  With the pending freezing temps, Metro may close early due to icing on the tracks, and if that happens, well...  Again, we'll see...

I am looking forward to tonight.  The previews have been going very well.  -And I also spent a good chunk of time last night once I got home from our final Preview getting my Opening Night "party favors" prepped and wrapped. - Which is why I was E&T last night.  However, what I'm most looking forward to is NOT having a 12-14 hour work day.  ;)

No DVDs in the mail today, so I will have to scour around and find something to watch. Actually, I never finished ALIEN 3 the other day and could certainly put that in the player.

It's dismal enough outside to mirror the atmosphere of that film to perfection!

Also thinking about re-watching CHICAGO.

I read a review on-line this morning of the new special edition (same transfers and sound of the old edition; just new special features on the second disc; I will NOT double dip this one).
