THAT QUEASY FEELING
« on: December 16, 2005, 12:08:45 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes hopefully haven't given you That Queasy Feeling, and now it is time for you to post until the Queasy Qows Qome home.

That Queasy Feeling - that sounds like a David Niven picture, doesn't it?

Glad to hear you're feeling better, BK.  I don't think I've ever been that sick...at least, not that I can remember.

As for the Topic of the Day:

In my VCR:  a tape with Martha's "Apprentice" from Wednesday, an episode of "Wife Swap" that switched the wives of a preacher and an athiest(!), and enough room for tonight's "Ghost Whisperer."

Good middle of the night all!

Well it is snowing here.

My meds have made me slightly loopy.  However I have a very bad case of post nasal drip right now.  And it's the middle of the night, so I cannot call the pharmacy to see what might be okay to take with my antibiotics.  So I shall take nothing. :(  And unfortunately since I cannot lie down, I cannot sleep. I was so tired I was trying to sleep sitting up. But that does not work so well for me.

Good morning, all!  It looks like Manhattan is safe from a transit strke until Monday, so that bodes good at least for DRs Ben and Anthony's departure to Ireland.  If DRRodzinski had been looking for an excuse to stay home today, I'm afraid that's been dashed until (hopefully) Monday.  The last strike in April 1980 was quite an 11-day deal.  My only memory is from 52nd to 94th Street in a terrible rainstorm and literally pouring water out of my shoes when I removed them.

Well, Amazon.com screwed up delivery time on a Christmas gift this morning, so I need to do a bit of a Tower Records visitation tomorrow.  My goal is to ship gifts to Ohio on Monday, and I still have a few things to accomplish.

DRJose, kudos on a successful opening night!

MEdia check, YOUdia check, HE/SHE/WEdia check!

iPod:  I been listening to Christmas music almost exclusively this past week and frankly, I need a break from it.  Just now I haphazardly dialed up an Elisabeth Welch in Concert recording and I'm giving that a spin.

Tivo:  Last Saturday I recorded a slew of Christmas shows off of TV Land.  I'm looking forward to seeing a few I don't remember (THE ADDAMS FAMILY and GREEN ACRES) and some I haven't seen in years (SICK VAN DYKE SHOW and ALL IN THE FAMILY.)

VCR:  THE HOUSE WITHOUT A CHRISTMAS TREE with Jason Robards, Mildred Natwick and Lisa Lucas (whatever happened to her?)  I'll be copying this show permanently to DVD this weekend.

He even worked on the original CARMEN JONES production, trained the chorus for Toscanini, and conducted the Atlanta Symphony!  All while battling huge sharks with his baton.

The guy in the office next to me is sharing a batch of home made toll house cookies with me.  I already had four of them.  Tis the season!

Well, gang, this will be the last post for a while. We got a car but it's coming at 12:30. Seems many people are keeping their reservations and there are no cars available at the time we want to go. Oh, well. We will be at the airport with newspapers and books and it will all be fine.

Happy Merry and all that stuff. See ya in January.

Love to all.

As for the Friday Media Check...

DVD: My workout DVD - I'm on the "Burn It Up" (Stage 3 of 3) phase right now.  It's a good workout, and even though I'm more or less used to it by now, it still kicks my ass.  -But in a good way.

VCR: Nada

CD: Well, I just got a bunch of CDs from BMG - they were offering unlimited CDs for $5.99 and FREE shipping if you ordered more than 5 at one time, so...
Nanci Griffith - Other Voices, Too (A Trip Back to Bountiful); From A Distance: The Very Best of...
Sweet Charity (Christina Applegate Revival OCR)
Albeniz - "Iberia", Marc-Andre Hamelin, pianist
Barbara Cook - The Best of Rodgers and Hart-Barbara Cook Sings "From the Heart"
Bernadette Peters - Sondheim, Etc., Etc. - Live at Carnegie Hall: The Rest of It
Ethel Merman - The World Is Your Balloon (The Decca Singles 1950-1951)
Liszt - Annees de pelerinage - Suisse; Stephen Hough, pianist
Ben Folds - Songs for Silverman (Deluxe Edition with Booklet and DVD)

-Hopefully, I'll be able to get a few of those unwrapped, opened, and listened to over the next couple of days now that I have a bit more free time in my schedule.

Well, I'm off to get my hair cut.  I had hoped to get it cut yesterday so that I would look fully coiffed for opening night, but due to the wintry mix - and the horrible midday traffic - I stayed put.  So, now I'm hoping to look all spiffy for the movie this afternoon.  ;)

POGUE...EASTERN STANDARD TIME

I shall not make the mistake I made yesterday.  I shall break up my long post into short increments.

The reason I've been out of pocket for the last weeks is that my computer has been in boxes.  The reason it has been in boxes is that everything I own has been in boxes.  And the reason for that is...The Lovely Wife and I have moved!  We are presently ensconced in Georgetown, Kentucky, about fifteen or so miles outside of Lexington in a lovely development with three lakes and abundant wildlife called Mallard Point.  Every day outside you encounter white-tail deer...sometimes as many as a half a dozen at a sighting.  Coyotes howl at night.  Geese honk overhead.  I've not seen any mallards or any other ducks, but then it is winter and the lake is semi-frozen.

End Part One.

I need a haircut, too.  I should go and have it done at lunchtime, but I rather take a walk to my comic shoppe.  I haven't been there for tree weeks now and I'm more than likely not going to get there during the next week or two.

Did I mention that I'm on vacation for the rest of the year?  I didn't?  Oh, well--I'm on vacation for the rest of the year.

POGUE - EASTERN STANDARD TIME - PART TWO

Why have the Pogues moved, you ask?   I knew the obscenely inflated real estate market in LA could not last forever.  So I noodled with my business manager and we figured we could sell our LA house for enough to buy a house here outright with plenty of money left over to add to our current savings that we could continue to live in the style to which we've become accustomed without either of us having to work again if we so desired.  We so desire and both of us will continue to work...we just don't have to.  My artistic manager is all for the idea, realizing that I don't have to be in LA to do what I do.  But I won't have to scramble after jobs I don't want to do anyway and plan to concentrate on a lot of different writing.

END OF PART TWO
