Had an enoyable MGM afternoon.

Started off with BEST FOOT FORWARD. Always a slight, fun romp, but honestly, I wonder if folks back then thought that was really Lucille Ball's voice when she sang. Usually MGM was pretty good about matching speaking voice to a ghost double's singing voice, but that has to be one of the worst matches in all movie musicals.

Then, I put in THE THIN MAN. When I pick a THIN MAN movie, I usually don't pick the first one since the later ones are slicker and the production values seem richer in later installments.

But the mystery is such a corker in this one that it's always fun to revisit even when you remember the killer's identity. All of the suspects and red herrings still hold one's attention beautifully.

There are some small scratches that pop up here and there during the film, but it still looks good for a film as old as it is.

BK, if I could afford the trip to L.A. I would surely go to see the play...you will just have to bring it to the Pacific Northwest and cast Ms. Jessica Skerritt.

Thanks to all and sundry for so many nice birthday wishes. And happiest b'day to you, DantheMan!!

This is the first birthday I do not share with my father, who shared this natal day with us. But I'll be stopping by the cemetary on my way to my sister's house (for a birthday barbecue, with the whole fam damily - including all my sibs and ALL their chillun, plus my ex, plus Bill, and assorted pets...) to pour a fine bottle of Scotch into the sod over their graves, and a toast (Jewish rye, sliced thin) to THEM that gave me life and a love of language, theater, music and convivial friends.

Off I go, Convivial Friends! L'Chaim!

Yes, that is the question.

Well, the internet seems fairly quiet as I've surfed around from site to site.

Guess I'll go tackle my cleaning project of the day.

Okay, and now I really must change into something festive and head to the Mount Sinai Cemetary off Yosemite, in Simi Valley, thence to my sister Tami's house for cheese slices and ham chunks.
