FEELING THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
« on: December 25, 2005, 12:15:09 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, you're in a proper Merry Christmas mood, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're off singing Christmas cowals right now, but they'll be back soon.

Since I woke up this early in the morning, I have no idea what I have received as of yet.

I shall go to a friend's home for the festivities where we will do a gift exchange.

Happy Holidays to all.

After a very long simmering, the ham has been cooked, and as near as we can tell it has been cooked to perfection.  I managed to haul the lobster pot we cooked it in (actually a tamale steamer, but basically the same construction) over to the sink (a very long trek, as it's a large kitchen), and then poured the water out of the pot.  Der B was already drooling from the fragrance of the cooking liquid.  We then plopped it into a large roasting pan, where it will cool, covered.  But first der B snuck a piece of the ham for a taste, which he shared, and it is tasty indeed!  Salty, of course, but it's supposed to be salty.  This is not a ham you have in large chunks, but better is served in thin shavings as a condiment or side dish.

Frankly, my dears, I'm on the pooped side, but also on the happy side.

Der Brucer gave me my present early, since we were waiting so long for piggy to cook.  He gave me the nine newest discs of Good Eats on DVD.  We watched four of the episodes on the discs (and the "Ask Elton" segments that followed), including the hour-long special "Down and Out in Paradise," which was partially filmed in Hawaii.  He's got some interesting ideas, including a variation on sweet and sour pork that I'd like to try... but I think I'll skip killing the pig with a hand grenade.

(It's a joke, DR Jane, he doesn't really...  ::))

Does a sema-phore only work part time?

(It's long past time for me to get to bed!)

Have a wonderful day everyone.

My interest in the word of the day has flagged somewhat.

"Christmas Time is Here"

Christmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all that children call
Their favorite time of the year

Snowflakes in the air
Carols everywhere
Olden times and ancient rhymes
Of love and dreams to share

Sleigh bells in the air
Beauty everywhere
Yuletide by the fireside
And joyful memories there

Christmas time is here
We'll be drawing near
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year...

After reading about BK's "do," I'm afraid the one I attended truly pales in comparison.

However, the spaghetti sauce was a HUGE delight for everyone, including my uncle (who thinks only HE can cook among all his family).

The conversation was not, however, lively or sparkling.

It had its moments, though...few though they were.

Wonderful reading about all the great parties!

Although we didn't get a CLOTHING report from anyone.  Didn't anyone encounter a relative wearing a Quacker sweater?

DR JMK - your music for HAM is lovely and I do think it will become a Christmas standard.

The ending is especially nice.  I forgot to notice the credits on the sheet music, but I guess in the tradition of Rodgers and Hammerstein, your name would come first.

Good morning, all!  Merry Christmas to you all!

I slept late this morning, and I am about to open all my cards and packages.  The first thing I opened this morning was my email from DR MichaelShayne, who's been a computer wizard once again:

I wish you all a fantatic day and that 2006 is kind and generous to each and every one of you.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I went to a very fun get together last night. We have been sharing Christmas Eve with another family for as long as I can remember. Last night was no exception. We had wonderful food, wonderful wine and gathered around the baby grand and sang and sang and sang.  We were even regaled with "Angels We Have Heard on High" as sung by Donald Duck.

Anyway, it was very festive and quite fun.

Today will be more food. We'll be eating brunch at my brother's home as soon as my parents get home from church.

I haven't had time to catch up on the posts and since I'm on dial up, I think I'll wait until I get back home, probably tomorrow.  But I did want to say Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah

Merry Christmas morning, everyone!!!!

I awoke to a rainy, overcast Sunday morning, and the rain increased during the morning hours. It has tapered off now, but the surprise was that it was raining at all since the forecast had said rain would arrive on Monday. I'm sure there were some disappointed children this morning when it was raining so hard and they couldn't take out their new bikes and other toys to play with them.

This afternoon should clear and be OK for play.

I am typing this very minute on my best CHristmas present of the season, the wireless computer keyboard and mouse. As I get more comfortable with key layouts, I am becoming more and more enamored with this gift.

I think I have already listed most of the DVDs I got for gifts from friends: THE AGONY AND THE ECSTACY, DR. ZHIVAGO, THE PALM BEACH STORY, MR. SKEFFINGTON, Barbara Cook on the Bell Telephone Hour. I also got a daily Disney Days calendar for my office.

So, that means that instead of Lucy clips for 2006, we'll be seeing Disney clips for the various page dances that come up.

I know at some point today, I'll be watching WHITE CHRISTMAS, but I think I'm going to start with the mega-cheesy NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION. I haven't seen this in quite a few years and thought I'd at least start it to see if it's gotten any funnier with age. (It was a Christmas gift from several years ago; I never would have bought it for myself.)

Christmas:  Two pairs of shoes...black loafers and beige suede/cordovan leather saddle shoes!  Umpteen pairs of socks (in addition to the ones I bought myself at Macy's).  An atomic clock w/a feature that projects the time on the ceiling or wall with a red laser beam; a fleece blanket & two body pillow cases; a new wallet; and various/sundry stocking stuffers.

I've been watching Shirley tap dance with Bill Robinson and Buddy Ebsen this morning.

Lots of high drama and happy resolutions on the FMC!

After weeks and weeks of being ultra-careful to avoid a cold, I fear one is sneaking up on me.  Feeling a bit off today.  Hopefully, I can keep it from becoming worse.  I have lots of preventatives -- Emergen-C, Airborne, TheraFlu and (vixmom will be happy) Alka-Seltzer Plus for Colds -- on hand.
