I like a lot of Don Black's early work and much prefer his "Tell Me On A Sunday" lyrics to the Americanised version!  I've never liked "To Sir With Love" but have a fondness for the the songs from "Billy" and from "Budgie", the song "In One Of My Weaker Moments".

I liked Don Black's lyrics to Elmer Bernstein's TRUE GRIT and WHERE'S JACK? two very different movies!

I had that Kreskin game, too!!  As well as The Amazing Dunninger, about which I remember nothing, absolutely nothing.   ???

The British cast recording (with American Ann Crumb) of The Goodbye Girl was horrid.  Marvin Hamlisch rewrote the score and threw out almost all of David Zippel's (much better) lyrics for new lyrics by Don Black. :P They kept only one or two of DZ's songs.

I quite enjoyed the simplistic adventure of THE POLAR EXPRESS (a kid's roller coaster ride on film in a way), and the digital imaging was very spectacular.

I might try to brave some food right about now, because if I don't I won't be able to eat until after ten, which I definitely do not want to do.

Tuesday evening greetings!  This is a quick check-in, between a couple of sparkling (well, sort of) get-togethers.  This afternoon we met both of DH Richard's brothers and their families at the Montgomery Inn for lunch - great BBQ ribs - and we got to know our nephew's fiance.  She is a delightful young woman, who's a perfect match for him.  The only downside to the event was that Richard's mother didn't make it - she went to the hospital in an ambulance at 11pm last night.  Richard met them there and spent all night with her - she was admitted with some sort of intestinal obstruction.  She's resting and they're trying to decide how to treat the problem.

Now, I'm on my way to meet my girlfriends for the 7pm showing of Memoirs of a Geisha.  Back later with a report.

DR Ron Pulliam - I wish you pleasant travels and a delightful (if short) visit to Cincinnati.  If you had a long wait between planes, we could have a mini HHW gathering!

Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers.

TOD: I don't believe I've seen ten different shows on tv this season.

I love Starting Over -- like I love plastic lawn flamingos, leopard spots, Wing, and Mrs. Miller. Some things are just stupid enough to be fun.

Yes, no comprede really, MBarnum.  Everyone just sits there like so much fish, as if it were still Christmas.  It's time to get off the butt cheeks, frankly, so we can send out this year with a bang.  We are almost 1000 postings behind where we were last year.

Just tried watching an episode of HOUSE, and was immediately so revolted by the main character.  Are we supposed to be entertained by his Sheridan-Whiteside-esque picking on and belittling a poor kid just out of college who did him no harm?

Strange but true department:  I got Betsy and me the Season 1 Leave it to Beaver set to bring back happy memories of our childhood (or at least first-run syndication, LOL).  So we popped in the unaired pilot, with a different Ward and Wally (the title of my next novel, BTW), and there's this proto-Eddie Haskell character who looks very familiar.  And lo and behold the credits come up and guess who it was, in all of his 12 year old (or so) glory?:  Harry Shearer!!!!

I just had to share this with Keith, a true Beaver fanatic.  Keith wants to know what took you so long to watch the shows and next begin on Northern Exposure and we can plan a trip together to the annual Moose Days in Washington.

Ginny, one thing I did right was to instill the joys of cooking to our boys.  Honestly I think I did the same for Keith though he denies it, as well as the fact I taught him how to cook.  Now they all surpass me and I reap the benefits.

Bruce I hope you are feeling better.  Do you still have junk food leftover?  If so I suggest you freeze it or trash it.

Elmore, sweet dreams tonight.

FJL try and catch an earlier episode of HOUSE.  Lately they have been crossing the line, or coming too close to it, with his character.

We missed the first episode, or more, of Closer and have been waiting for the re-runs.

Jane, if I had known that all it would take to get you to come to Washington was seeing some moose; Jed and I would have volunteered to stand next to the main highway a long time ago.

Don't faint, bk, but I'm actually going to post.
Christmas this year was one of the best I can remember.  Bouncing back and forth between Jed's house and mine was great fun, and we got to spend lots of time with both families.  Present-wise, I scored big this year.  Among the favorites was an ipod, which I've been wanting for a while, a programable coffeemaker, from the wonderful DB Jed, and of course the new (used) car that my dad bought for me yesterday and I'll have sometime next week.  Yes, I'm spoiled... :D

A new used car???  Perhaps your other father should pay attention to what his future son-in-law is driving around!

Today I learned something-during the period between Christmas and the New Year there is a shortage of appliance repairmen and an abundance of the need for these repairmen.  Tomorrow morning I will find out if one of these repairmen will come fix my dryer.
