Too bad DR Ben was preempted by Sports on the internet. Is there anyway to hear the rest of the show?

First, I just want to say how thrilled I am for DR Ben!  It’s so wonderful that he got to live a dream come true!  Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!

I’m so happy that he and Ant are having such a good time over “there” but I’m sending good vibes for a fun and safe trip home as well.

Speaking of a safe trip home, I’m also very glad to hear that DR Ron Pullman is back from his trip.  Click those heels and repeat after me, “There’s no place like home.  There’s no place like HOME!”

I also wanted you all to know that I heard from the Childrens Zoo.  They were thrilled with my letter and said they will be sharing it with the Zoo Director and with Timmie.

Lastly this was a very sad day for me as the lady I’ve worked with for the past year decided to leave and go home to Israel to live.  We got along so wonderfully that it was very hard for me to tell her “Bye”.   I had to get her a “going away” gift so I bought her a little bee pin to remember me by-- to bee happy, to bee good and to bee safe.

I walked with her down to the bus for the last time, saw her get on her bus and cried all the way home on mine.

I hate it when people leave.  I know it's all part of life but I attach pretty easy and it hurts when someone I like is gone.

Someone else is leaving the department and we're taking him out to lunch tomorrow.

I hope we have a short day tomorrow.  Getting off at 2 again would be GREAT!

Cillaliz I hope all the problems on the house are an easy fix.

Speaking of calendars, Bryan gave me a beautiful one for Christmas.  Each page is from the cover of a magazine from the 1895-1934, all hand drawn.

Funny ex story.

Danise it is always sad when the good people leave.  I'm sure you would skip for joy after escorting a few other co-workers to the bus stop for the last time.  I’m sorry your friend has left and I hope she is very happy in Israel.

I shall now be on my way to rehearsal.  I'm going a little early so I can finally sample a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich from the place next to our rehearsal space.  It's supposed to be the cat's pj's, so I shall have a full report for you later.

Pogue you bring back fond memories of the year we spent in Tiburon with family and friends close by.  The day we were moving in the children were surprised friends we hadn’t seen in 20 years stopped by.  Even more surprising, to them, was the big greeting and how we all seemed as if we had been close all those years.

What DR Ben has not told us about his radio co-host, Beverley Humphreys!

Beverley Humphreys is a singer and broadcaster and writes and presents BBC Radio Wales' Showtime as well as many other Radio Wales features.

After graduating from university, Beverley began her operatic career as Rosina in The Barber of Seville for Welsh National Opera. Other roles include Carmen, Santuzza and Amneris. She has performed at all the major concert halls in this country, including the Royal Albert Hall before HM Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip! Across the Atlantic she has appeared in concert from Vancouver to New York.

Versatility is Beverley's hallmark. She is no stranger to Radio 2, 3 or 4 or to the television screen as singer and presenter. She is just as much at home with Anthony Worral Thompson in Sing For Your Supper as she is with the music of Stephen Sondheim and the jazz standards. In 1992, Beverley was given the singular honour of being the first singer in the history of Welsh rugby to step out onto the hallowed turf in the National Stadium to lead the tens of thousands of spectators in the field, and millions all over the world, in the singing of the Welsh national anthem.

Beverley has written and toured with her one-woman shows which include Seven Women Under One Hat, A Tribute To Ivor Novello and Legendary Ladies (Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland and Gertrude Lawrence). She is currently working on Virgins, Victims and Vamps and has made an acclaimed 4-part BBC Radio Wales series on Paul Robeson.

Beverley also manages to fit into her busy schedule extensive charity work - she is the Welsh representative for the Christian charity Feed The Minds, patron of Crossroads (Caring For Carers), trustee of Growing Space (mental health project) and the co-ordinator of the Let Paul Robeson Sing Exhibition.

And another full night of TV and DVDs.

First up was another episode of CSI: NY from the DVD (the last episode on the second disc). One thing I've noticed about this boxed set is that the transfers, while enhanced for widescreen TVs, are not as sharp as their CSI counterparts. I'm not sure why they aren't, but they are clearly a step down in sharpness from CSI and CSI: MIAMI.

I did watch CRIMINAL MINDS tonight

spoiler - - - - - - - - -

, and I found the story hackneyed and predictable. From the credits alone, I knew something was fishy when Matt Letscher was glimpsed for about two seconds in the first half of the show yet got third billing in the credits. But even if I hadn't been familiar with his voice and face, the resolution would still have been very easy to predict. This ransom and kidnapping story done from the inside has been done many, many times, and I didn't see anything about this execution of it that made it unique.

Also not top notch was the hour of WILL & GRACE that I watched. The first episode with Grace as a guest on Jack's talk show was the funnier of the two (the second was the one guest starring RIchard CHamberlain), but neither was a laugh riot.

I've missed one WILL & GRACE episode this year, too, the Thanksgiving episode featuring Debbie Reynolds which the local network affliliate preempted and never showed later. I'm assuming I'll see it at some point this season.

Then, I watched the CSI episode at 10 which I had recorded at 9. An episode from earlier this season featuring a mass suicide of a cult, it had some moments of interest but is not one of my favorite episodes from this season thus far.

Good Evening!

Well, I didn't fall asleep!

;D

-Actually, I did get a little "noddy" at one point in the first act, but then I just stood up and walked around the pit - it's a very roomy pit - and that helped to keep me awake for the rest of the show.

And it was a very good show tonight too.  Wonderful audience.

And I already started my steel cut oatmeal upstairs in the kitchen - boil water, add oatmeal, boil for five minutes, let sit until morning.  Easy-peasy.  And I also started some water for some tea - chamomile.

...And I believe I shall be heading to the land of the Wussburgers in a little while...  (an Amy Grant reference for you CCM fans ;) )

Jason, what kind of DVD burner did you buy--for the TV or for your PC?  I bought one for my PC today at Best Buy.  I haven't opened it up yet--I usually let things like this sit in the box for a day or two while I hem and haw on whether my purchase was a wise one or not.  I'm such a whoose at times.

DtM: I got a Sony DVD+/-R. CompUSA had them on sale and with the $30 mail-in rebate, I got it for $110! Woo and hoo! A friend of mine gave me a website link to order good blank discs at a low, low cost (100 discs for $28!). I'll find the URL and give it to you tomorrow if you're interested...

Bonus??? What bonus????

Workers at Disneyland Paris protest against lack of bonus
The Associated Press

December 29, 2005, 8:00 AM EST

PARIS -- Hundreds of Disneyland Paris resort workers staged a protest Thursday to denounce the "stinginess" of managers who chose not to pay many employees a euro100 (US$119) bonus this year.

The protesters, many waving banners and chanting, said the retraction of the annual bonus was one of many complaints, including increases in maximum daily work hours and changes to compensation time.

"Management at Disneyland Resort Paris is giving huge payments to its managers and refusing to grant 100 euros to its employees," read a flier distributed by labor unions. "Such pettiness and stinginess!"

Pieter Boterman, a spokesman for resort operator Euro Disney SCA, said special holiday bonuses have been paid in eight of the resort's 14 years of operation.

The optional bonuses were paid either in years of profit or years in which special events like the opening of new attractions took place, he said. Euro Disney posted a net loss of euro95 million ($113 million) in its 2005 fiscal year, and there were no special events this year.

"There's no reason that we should pay an exceptional bonus this year," Boterman said. About 7,000 workers among Euro Disney's staff of more than 12,000 are not receiving the bonuses this year, he said. Euro Disney is in talks with unions over the other labor issues, he said.

Organizers from among the several unions behind the rally said about 500 to 600 protesters took part, while police put the figure at no more than 200.

Yep, Jason--I would be interested.  I went with an LG model that had the lightScribe feature that allows you to burn a label right onto a DVD or CD.  The thing is, I just found out that you have to use specially made DVDs or CDs to do this, and I am so stock-piled with blank DVDs and CDs that it will be a while before I ever have to buy more.  So I'm still in the market for other models.
