Well, you've read the notes, you know there is only one more notes for the year 2005, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently counting their gray hairs and then they'll be on their merry way.

Here I am, a 4:35 a.m. (pst) interloper.

Back east, it's my usual wake-up and make-the-coffee time.  It's the time I usually walk up my mom's driveway and retrieve her newspaper from the roadside box.

Usually?  Well, for two weeks out of 52 anyway!

I'm up.  I'm up.

Does that count for anything at all at 4:37 a.m.?

I have many things to do today.

Will I crash and burn at midday?

Hmmm.

I have already screened and deleted the bulk of 412 e-mails from my office e-mail.  Most were spam, but there were a few things worth keeping for later ruminations.

As can always be expected, there are folks at work who insist on complicating the simplest things and dragging them out well beyond reasonable lengths in order to avoid doing something they should do.

I'm rather eager for Tuesday so that I can officially reply to a couple of the e-mails.

So sad to be the ONLY one online at 4:42 a.m pst (7:42 a.m. est).

I suppose I should try to get another hour or two of sleep.

Ciao-ders.

CD player, car: I tried introducing the grandlads to some Kenny Loggins music, the Keep the Fire disc.  The booklet didn't have lyrics included.  Alex decided it was boring.  (He's also decided he doesn't like the second disc of the Elton John Hits set we gave him for Christmas, because he doesn't understand what's being sung.  Rough translation, if he doesn't have the lyric sheet to follow, it isn't good music.  I purposely put on the second disc, and played "Circle of Life," asking the lads if they'd heard the song before.  Alex said he hadn't.  William recognized the song as being from The Lion King, and got all wide-eyed when he realized that Elton had written the songs for the film.  I think Willliam is smarter than Alex, in spite of what Mommy says.)

Home CD player: Elton John's Peachtree Road.

DVD player: Bill Engvall: "Here's Your Sign" Live.  I saw most of this on the Comedy Channel earlier this week, on the kitchen TV, while der Brucer was busy watching one of his happy shows.  He was thrown by my laughing so loudly that he could hear me way in the living room; I usually don't get that loud.  Engvall was part of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour; this DVD is a solo act, part of a boxed set of solo DVDs with the other tourists.  So, since there wasn't anything worth watching on "live" TV last night (what, no happy shows, even in re-runs?), der B agreed to let me put it on, not entirely sure of how much he'd like it.  After going on twenty-one years together, our tastes still are not identical.  Before he realized it, he was having trouble breathing, he was laughing so hard.  Good thing I'm not an "I told you so" kind of guy.

I picked up this tidbit over at IMDB, regarding Brokeback Mountain:

Quote
Thus far, conservative religious groups have been loath to mount an attack on it, concerned that doing so would further publicize the film. But in a review the Christian Film & Television Commission, which calls itself "a ministry dedicated to redeeming the values of the mass media according to biblical principles," calls the film "twisted, laughable, frustrating and boring neo-Marxist homosexual propaganda."

Everybody, SING!

Gimme that old-fashioned pre-Marxist homosexual propaganda
Gimme that old-fashioned pre-Marxist homosexual propaganda
Gimme that old-fashioned pre-Marxist homosexual propaganda
It's good enough for me!

Good morning, all!  Is it the passing of 2005 or the Mexican cuisine I had last evening?  All I know is, the bizarre, and I mean really bizarre, dreams continue:  something about a movie theatre and a bus in Oxford, Ohio, my Aunt Jean's house around 1960, a bunch of Hobbits, and a gigantic tree.  I think Keanu Reeves was somewhere in that jumble as well.  And before I woke up, I was trying to give away a library card.

Well, today is IRS, pharmacy and the post office.  Then, maybe a trip to Toyland to keep me young.  As if.

Yesterday, our esteemed BK asked:

Quote
I had the small Philly cheesesteak sandwich.  I've been hearing raves for this jernt from everyone, but frankly I found it pretty ordinary.  Can someone tell me what a Philly cheesesteak sandwich is supposed to look like?  This had really finely chopped meat, not too many onions (couldn't even see them they were so finely chopped) and American cheese.

Well, without much digging I found the following information:

Quote
There are a number of things you need to consider in your search for the perfect cheesesteak. First, there's the cheesesteak itself. As already noted, a proper Philly cheesesteak is made with real beef -- fresh, not frozen. It is cooked on a grill using grease.

As it is cooked, it should be chopped to bits. You then choose which cheese you prefer and whether you want onions, peppers or other toppings. When the sandwich is served the juices should drip from your cheesesteak. In order to avoid ruining their clothes, Philadelphians have learned, what is referred to as, the "Philadelphia Lean", bending forward to eat the cheesesteak, instead of bringing it to your mouth.

Hope this isn't too much information.  (I'm getting hungry!!!)

Time to head to work.  Next week's schedule will be posted sometime today...I just hope I've got the 7th off, since we're due to be in Philly (home of the cheesesteak) that day.

Good morning!

Catching up on yesterday's posts.

I am fascinated by DR CILLALIZ's Realist 3-D camera!  What a great gift.

I send good vibes to DR DANISE on her departing friend...I KNOW exactly what you mean.

DR RLP - change the gate code??  Didn't they know you were gone?  Or...did they....

I am horrified and embarrassed and mortified and citified that I forgot to include NEW GUY IN TOWN on my list.  Consider it - on my list.

Good morning!

Another simply splendid day here! Amazing that so many days in a row can continue to break temperature records for highs, and there is no end in sight. In fact, the five day forecast sees several days with highs in the mid-60s!

Alas, ORCHESTRA WIVES was on one of my Christmas lists, and the person in question chose other things for gifts, so I will have to procure it for myself.

I should show up on the Fox Movie Channel at some point. Maybe I'll wait to see if I can get a decent copy of it there.

Yes, I've been surprised that there hasn't been more outcry from the fundamentalists over BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. I suspect we'll get some here when it opens next Friday.

Also, they may be too busy mounting protests against NBC's new comedy-drama THE BOOK OF DANIEL.

Gray hair? Yep, mine has a lot more gray in it at the end of this year as well. Still more brown than gray, and at this point the gray makes it almost look like highlights rather than gray. But it's gray, all right.

In my CD player:

ON A CLEAR DAY - original cast album
CYNDI LAUPER - She's So Unusual
VIRGINIA BELLES - Essentially Covered
ONCE UPON A MATTRESS - original cast album
AFTER THE BALL - Irish Rep. cast album

Listening to the AFTER THE BALL CD again, it frankly occurs to me that it's far better than at least three of the show albums nominated for the Grammy this year.  But that's just my taste, I guess.

On my way to the grocery store now. I usually shop for food on Sunday morning, but not knowing what store hours will be this Sunday, I think I'd rather just get it over with today and not worry about Sunday shopping at all.

My hair did not become grayer; but it did become greyer.

My DVD that I had on order at B & N came in yesterday, I picked it up, and it was a treat to see the final Budd Boetticher/Randy Scott western, SEVEN MEN FROM NOW...certainly one of the best of the bunch they did together.  Lee Marvin was the great Boetticher/Burt Kennedy (the writer) charismatic villain, and it was a wistful, sad pleasure to see the tragic Gail Russell in one of her final roles.  The alcoholism was already taking it's toll and her beauty fading.  It was sad to think she was only 31 when she made this film; she looked in her forties.

Good morning all
I have finally managed to catch up with all the posts from the last few days.  I'm in another performance run for Seattle Symphony...this time for Beethoven's 9th.  It means I run to call after work, and don't get home 'till 11, so the week has been kinda crazy.  The rumors and weirdness at work haven't helped either.

No media to speak of, I'm afraid...unless you count my new ipod :)  It's been a lifesaver during these drives to and from Seattle every night.

BK, I believe a little girl was channeling you yesterday at work.  She's 4 years old, and I was reading her a story at the end of the day yesterday.  We finished and she started to reach for another book, but knowing I sometimes leave early she turned back to me and said, with perfect BK inflection, "Are you going to be leaving now?  Yes or no?"

CD:  Soundtrack to Kingdom of Heaven, which has some nice choral stuff a la Hildegard von Bingen (and a completely misplaced [time-wise] interpolation of  Bach chorale).

DVD:  we're switching back and forth between the Todd-AO Oklahoma! and Cadfael.

Weird dreams department:  you're not the only one, Elmoore.  Betsy and I have both been in a labyrinth of long, confusing dreams lately.  We've been rehashing them every morning when we awaken.  Must have something to do with the time of year.   ;)  Last night was the trifecta for me--I had a dream involving Percy Faith, Frances Farmer and Sergio Mendes!!  Who knew?
