Today, I watched "My Favorite Brunette," most of "Stage Door Canteen" and I glanced through bits of "A Star Is Born."  I got these DVDs at a local dollar store for a dollar each!  "ASIB" is in color, but it looks like a colorized black and white movie. :P Both "MFB" and "SDC" sound pretty good but are a little dark.  It was fun to watch "Stage Door Canteen" and all those old-time performers.  And Ethel Merman and Gypsy Rose Lee were BOTH in it!!  But not in the same scene, though.

Public domain films like those are always crap shoots, DR George. You never know what kind of quality you're going to get.

Had a lovely evening of TV and DVDing.

Started off with another CSI: NY episode. This one concerned a circus contortionist killed near Coney Island.

Since the NFL game on CBS ran long, COLD CASE was delayed, so I watched two LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT repeat episodes on NBC. Both were fairly familiar and yet I did enjoy watching them again. I didn't quite remember how either one quite resolved itself, so the endings were very satisfying.

Then I watched the new series IN JUSTICE. I found it very entertaining. I liked the cast, the case was interesting, and the pieces of the puzzle were assembled well enough to hold my interest even though it was near-impossible to guess the identity of the killer. I'll continue watching this in its regular time slot on Fridays. It will be the only show I watch on Fridays (apart from sampling THE BOOK OF DANIEL which premieres this week).

There are so many lawyer procedurals on TV now, so I was pleased that this one had enough different about it to keep me interested. I didn't read especially flattering reviews for the show, but I think it has great promise.

Jane, I'm so sorry about your cousin. We'll talk...

So I just got back from 2 count 'em 2 movies - it's been a long time since I went to a movie, and here were 2 - Fun With Dick and Jane - nice mindless remake of the George Segal-Jane Fonda mindless romp; AND The Family Stone!! Wow. Go see it. As my grandma said about ET: "Quite a pic-chuh... I could see it again..."

Then I had eggplant parmesan at Buca di Beppo with my friend Bill. Started with a nice Caprese with very fresh mozzarella and basil. Yummmmm.

And it feels like a hundred o'clock, so I'll toddle off. Nightynite, m'DR's.

Too bad dear reader Matthew didn't arrange for a West Coast hainsies/kimlets get-together, especially since he was two minutes away at Du-Par's.

Good Evening!

Well...

My parents hosted a New Year's Day party for some of their friends today.  It was still going on when I got home after the show...

And, yes, the karaoke machine was getting quite the workout...

As for New Years resolutions, I make them every year. I really don't recall if I keep or break most of them...although it does seem like I make the same ones every year!

The first resolutions is to get back into shape. Since I bought this house 4 years ago it seems that I have been making payments to a gym that I rarely use...so that IS going to change. And pronto.

Along with that is a resolution to eat better. I don't eat all that bad to begin with, but I tell you I have had no will power this holiday season when it comes to carb loaded food...namely homemade Christmas goodies of the chocolate variety.

I can have a small piece of chocolate now and then without raising my blood sugar to all fired hi...and maybe a loan cookie. I vow to do better in 2006.

And my 3rd resolution is to get my home environment more organized. And to clean more often.

4th and most important resolution is to get some of the myriad of interviews that I have on tape transcribed so that they can get to the various and sundried magazines that I write for.

I will tell you about the power of haineshisway.com.  I received a sweet e-mail from someone named Emy.  Some time ago, when we had a topic of the day regarding teachers that made a difference, Dan-the-Man had posted about his English teacher.  Well, that teacher turned out to be Emy's grandmother, and in searching her on the Internet he was led here.  Of course, Dan-the-Man doesn't know about it yet as he's been errant and truant since 12/28 - I've PMd him the e-mail and also given his e-mail address to Emy.

As for the pic from Lestat... From what I can tell from the background, I believe that's from early in the first act.  *Also, the color of his shirt is a clue too...  Got to love those costume designers and their costume plots.

And back to Resolutions for a moment...

There was a nice segment on the radio I caught on the way back from the show tonight.  The gentleman they were interviewing said it was better to think of New Year's Resolutions as New Year's Priorities.  -What will I concentrate on in the New Year?  And be sure to set up goals - long term AND, more importantly, short terms goals.  Resolutions were made to be broken.  Priorities were made to be paid attention to.  -And by prioritizing certain things, that then leaves room for those "failures" along the way.

...and that's my new philosophy!

Priorities is a good way to look at it. I look at is as things I want to do better.  If I'm not perfect well that's fine, but there are a number of things I can do better than I am now.

5th resolution is to get more of my DVDs watched (an perhaps not to keep buying so many. And to begin I shall now watch another weekend Bollywood movie. And that will be MUGHAL-E-AZAM (1960) starring the wonderful Dilip Kumar, the beautiful Madhubala (who could give Meena Kumari a run for her money in the looks department), and Prithviraj Kapoor.

MUGHAL-E-AZAM is to Hindi cinema what GONE WITH THE WIND is to us, a bonafide classic. It is so popular that it was rereleased the theaters in India, and the U.S., this last year. This is not the first version of the story of a doomed love affair between a crown prince and a court dancer, but it is considered the best.

We shall see.

...And as "luck" would have it, one of the guys in the cast was handing out his Holiday Cards today... And in his greeting and wishes to me he mentioned that my hard work (out) is paying off - he can see the improvement, the progress...  That was just what I needed after my quasi-disappoinment this morning after stepping on the scale.

Ain't people great?

OH!...

And I was also reminded tonight that we have Noon show on Tuesday, the 10th... So, I guess that means I won't be heading up next "weekend" - just not enough turn around time.  However, the 16th is looking good.  -What's that they say about best laid plans?
