Good morning!

It was raining when I woke up (after a very unrestful night) which mirrored my mood. But the clouds are rolling by now (a Jerome Kern reference), the sun is coming out (a Charles Strouse reference), and it looks like it might be a great day (a Billy Rose reference; who wrote the music for "Great Day"?).

Favorite biopic is probably LAWRENCE OF ARABIA but honestly, for capturing his essence, I'd certainly rank CAPOTE right up there even though it's only a few pivotal years of his life.

Does ALL THAT JAZZ count?  :)

After I logged off last night, I watched another FIREFLY episode and enjoyed it thoroughly. This one was called "Jaynestown" and dealt with bad boy of the crew Jayne Cobb's being mistakenly honored on a planet where something dastardly he did years ago actually turned out well for the inhabitants, and he had been celebrated ever since. Probably my favorite episode of the series (though I haven't seen the last three which never aired on Fox and I never caught on FX when they ran the show.)

I don't know from today's topic.

Today I have a very busy day planned: Along with another woman, I shall attempt to dig out a hoarder's house. After which I shall come home and throw away everything I own.  Unfortunately, this is not a paying gig.

And I haven't a clue what I'm going to watch this afternoon. I recorded SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW in high definition off HBO-HD last night. I wasn't a big fan of the movie when I saw it in the theater (really loathed Gwyneth Paltrow's character), but with all of the computer generated backgrounds of it, I was curious how it would look in high definition, so I recorded it and may watch it today.

I also recorded TCM's broadcast of the Danny Kaye musical THE KID FROM BROOKLYN yesterday afternoon, and I watched a bit of it last night. The Technicolor is just eye-popping in this film.

However, Vera-Ellen has that overly made-up Technicolored look that Warners saddled Doris Day with in her early Warners musicals. I know in Doris' case, it was to hide her freckles. Don't know why Vera was slathered so liberally with pancake, though.

I really liked Johnny Depp in ED WOOD! And Martin Landau as Lugosi. Loved YANKEE DOODLE DANDY. I do think someone should write a movie about Verdi... whatta life. And They really missed with the bio pic of BEETHOVEN - yipes, how did that happen, with so much great TRUE stuff to write about??? Loved AMADEUS. The movie about Richard Feynman - forget the name, but whatta tale. THE ROOKIE!!!

And now, more caffeine...

And I'm having lunch with best friend John today, so that will lift my spirits as well. Yes, I'm still brooding about that stupid upset at the Oscars last night.

As for the rest of the show, I enjoyed Jon Stewart. Yes, a little too smug, but that's his persona, and I wouldn't have expected anything different. I thought he did a fine job. Not Johnny Carson fine but fine.

Too many montages, many with no point. I ADORE film noir, but what point were they making with those clips? I don't get why it was included. The epic montage was a misfire from the get-go with so many films that weren't epics.

Oh, well, back to the drawing board for next year, fellas.

My sister and I just sat glued to the tube through the Oscars - eating, eating, eating. I had the customary trough o' salad, we had boiled soybeans, we had plate of crudites, we had leftover popcorn from  the showing of TRANSAMERICA earlier yesterday - sheesh - Reese Witherspoon? Yes, she's adorable, and yes, America still mourns for Johnny and June...

I've watched many an Oscarcast in my day...and have many of them recorded.

But last night's....Y-A-W-N.

3 1/2 hours I'd gladly trade for just about anything else.

Read this question, come up with an answer and then post it. This is not a trick question. It is as it reads.  No one I know has got it right.

A woman, while at the funeral of her own mother, met a guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing. She believed him to be her dream guy so much, that she fell in love with him right there, but never asked for his number and could not find him. A few days later she killed her sister.

Question: What is her motive for killing her sister?

[Give this some thought before you answer, I'll post the answer later]

Visually I like "Moulin Rouge" as a bio.  Not the Baz L version!

Yep.  Lawrence and Amadeus and certainly George III

Does "Gods and Monsters" count"?

Thanks Jack .  YES   "Beyond The Sea"

I popped by a few times last night but since I'm no fan of Oscar/award shows I didn't post.

I hope that everyone is doing well.

I can't believe I haven't seen BEYOND THE SEA yet! I don't know why it hasn't appeared on Showtime, HBO, Starz, or Encores. They must have started with it at either Cinemax or The Movie Channel, and it'll work its way to the sister channel in another month or two.
