THE LAST OF MAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is the last day of May. Can you believe it? Where the HELL did May go? Apparently, it went thataway. Being the last day of May, I think we all know what that means and what that means is that tomorrow will be busting out all over, namely June, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that June will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. But all of that was merely a preamble and now it is time to get to the damn amble. And so, without further ado, the amble. Let’s talk about food first – I had a deliciously delicious early dinner at the Smokehouse – had the filet mignon (with Bearnaise, of course), a baked potato (with a pound of butter, of course), and instead of clam chowder I tried their French onion soup, and it was excellently excellent. I kept the garlic cheese bread to two small pieces, and it was a very good batch. When we got there, it was pretty crowded for five-thirty. By the time we left at around seven-ten, the jernt was jumping and hugely crowded with people eating. So, that was a high point of yesterday. I did get eight hours of sleep, I did get up, I did answer e-mails, I did do some futzing and finessing and writing, I watched the rest of the Drat! The Cat! video, typed up the minor notes I had, then drove the hard drive over to the guy who put it together. It really shouldn’t take him long to do it. He lives quite close to me – actually, he lives three blocks from the house I owned in North Hollywood from 1978 to 1983. I do believe that house would sell for close to two million dollars today. Actually, let’s check, shall we? Oops (spoo, spelled backwards), I was incorrect. Zillow says it would sell for 2.5 million. Damn them, damn them all to HELL. Amazingly, the last time it sold was when I sold it – for the whopping price of $260,000. So, those people have been in the house a very long time. Oh dear, went off on a tangent, but then again, a tangent certainly has gone off on me. I came right home, wrote some more, began a new chapter, and then shaved and showered and moseyed on over to the Smokehouse and you know how that went. Then I came right home, wrote a couple more pages, and then just flipped around the Tube of You. I watched the first twenty-five minutes of When a Stranger Calls and I know I always say this, but it’s just so well done and Carol Kane is so good, and Dana Kaproff’s score is so perfect (still available on Kritzerland), including the bit that the THX sound logo “borrowed.” If I feel like it, I’ll whip out the Blu-ray and give it a proper watch. It’s been a few years. Then I had a telephonic conversation and here we are.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll futz and finesse, I’ll write, I have a 50% off thing for Uber Eats, so I’ll see if anything sounds good to me, then I’ll go to the mail place and hopefully pick up two important envelopes, I’ll write some more, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is June and a ME day, although I’m sure I’ll do some writing and then send however many pages that is to Muse Margaret to see what she thinks. Then on Monday, we’ll send out the rehearsal schedule and hope for the best, I’ll make a show order, get the music to our pianist, and maybe even write the commentary so I don’t have to worry about that.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, futz and finesse, write, eat, hopefully pick up two important envelopes, write more, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What is your favorite kind of steak, how do you like the temperature to be, how do you like it prepared – sauce, no sauce – and what are your favorite steak side dishes? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as we have the last of May.
