MY LIFE AS A MUSICAL COMEDY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had another fun rehearsal and got all three musical numbers that were scheduled done, plus drilled the opening number. We got one of the two missing boys, so that was good. Nice guy. Not sure he understands what the commitment is so our gal who found him will make sure he does. If we can find one more that will be great – if not, we’ll make do. We also met with our lighting designer, and we really like him a lot. His roommate is a stage manager, so we’re going to see if he can do the show. The only maddening thing and which I’d do differently is not having a proper musical director to teach the songs – so it takes longer than it really should. But they’re getting them and the stuff we’ve done looks really cute. We did one big number tonight and after futzing with it quite a bit it looks pretty good now. It really helped to have the laptop there with my speakers so everyone could hear it clearly. I will say that this is the most exercise I’ve had in months, and I will also say it feels GOOD to get on my feet and do movement and teach it. We worked the entire three hours last night. We film everything and it gets put up on Google Drive so people can see what’s what and practice and get the steps right. Prior to that, we met our lighting designer, and we really liked him a lot – good energy, positivity, and his roommate is a stage manager, so we’ll try to get him, too, and keep it all in the family, so to speak. Prior to that, I got almost ten hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, ordered my extra crispy orange chicken, it arrived and was very good. I had a couple of telephonic conversations, showered, did a bunch of prep work for the evening’s rehearsal, then moseyed on over to the theater to meet our lighting guy. After rehearsal, I came right home and had two hot dogs – and took the last of the pills. No time to watch anything, obviously, so just listened to some Ruth Gipps, namely her first symphony. And that was pretty much it and it was pretty much that.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll have a couple of telephonic conversations, decide what stuff we’ll do tonight – we’ll drill everything from last night, of course – and get that done. I think we’ve done the biggest ensemble stuff, but I can’t swear to it. I do have stuff to do during the day, and I’ll eat something light, and then around six-fifteen I’ll mosey on over to the theater and set up and we’ll begin at seven. After, I’ll come right home

Tomorrow is off, so I’ll just relax all day and night. Saturday, we convene at ten and work until one. Sunday is off, as is Monday, and then we reconvene on Tuesday and I’m going to hopefully be done with most of the numbers by then so we can jump into the scenes, of which there are plenty, but which thankfully mostly involve three to four people. I’m feeling very good about the play itself.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, have telephonic conversations, decide what we’ll be doing and then get the company that info so they can look at it, do a couple of things that I need to get done, eat, then I’ll mosey on over to the theater and then we rehearse and then I come home. Today’s topic of discussion: Muffins. What are your favorite kinds of muffins – not English muffins, but by-God muffin muffins and include scones, too. My favorite muffin is a good chocolate chip muffin. I used to really like bran muffins when I was a kid, but I haven’t had one in years. I like anything with cherries in it – are there cherry muffins? I love muffin tops, too. Scones I’ve never really understood. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to not only be having fun but also to be getting some damn exercise. Oh, I keep forgetting to mention, that little Ava Madison Gray, who’s become a Kritzerland veteran, auditioned for an Orange County event – may be charity related – wherein Hugh Jackman will do a master class with a small number of young participants. They auditioned many kids – Ava made the first cut, narrowed down to twelve – singing my song, My Life as a Musical Comedy from Sami. Well, she just made the final cut and is one of only six chosen kids who’ll partake – that’s really something and they had her sing my song live this time (the first time she sent in a tape of her doing it at Kritzerland). And she’ll be singing it again for Mr. Jackman himself. And in the next Kritzerland, too.
