ASK BK

What do you think is the best Bio film you ever saw? Criteria: They got most of it right, characters are real (are not composites or did not exist to tell the story), events actually happened to them in chronological order, the subject is not white washed (i.e. being straight when they were gay) etc etc

So glad you had a nice birthday, Bruce.  With your dance card so filled up for the week (including various dinner for your birthday), I would think a nice easy night off would be most enjoyable.

Good morning, all.

A decent sleep was had, with one crazy abstract dream that I couldn't begin to put together, even for myself.

I had a couple of strange dreams, one involving goddaughter Charlotte and me in the theatre district. She wasn't more than ten years old, we had been in a furniture store, and she vanished, When I found her she was in a garage with other children and several cats and kittens.

Another dream was backstage in a theatre, It was either on Broadway or at Goodspeed, actors were complaining about the audience, and the head cashier at Barne & Noble whom I loathed when I was working there was on the theatre staff.

DR ChasSmith, the only music I have ever seen for the Anderson Christmas Festival is a piano-conductor score. IK don't believe that I own a copy, but I might, possibly John McGlinn's score.

There is an excellent book of interviews with those involved in the blacklisting called TENDER COMRADES.....if you haven't read that one, MR BK.

I liked a lot of the interviews, some were the same "poor me how I suffered" crap....but how the majority of people kept going is interesting to read.  The description several of them gave of the writer's factory that Phillip Yordan ran out of his basement was very entertaining.

Edward Dymytryk's wife Jean comes off very badly, but I suppose she thinks what she thinks....no matter how misguided and off the mark she still is.

DR Elmore, I'm sorry to read that Rob Berman will not be conducting 1776.  I'd especially looked forward to his guiding hand on that one.

And that Mr. Tunick is the chosen one for Cabin in the Sky, though I remember you saying that was fairly inevitable.

They all take liberties and I'm not sure why.  They'll tell you they have to make drama - I say why do it if there's not enough drama as there is?This year I enjoyed Straight Outta Compton and Trumbo, but Trumbo had the caveat I've mentioned, while, for me, Compton didn't because I don't know that world at all.

Ten o'clock meeting pushed to ten-thirty.  Funny that - that's when I'd wanted it so I didn't have to get up quite so early, but was pushed into the ten slot.

My need to give up theatre is growing more an more strong as each day processes.  I'm not cut out for the dog eat dog, clique forming, back stabbing, "let's play theatre" attitude of the theatre world in the bay area.  So, my decision will be to quietly to less and less.

The article makes the mistake, at least in the headline - of combining the HUAC and Sen. McCarthy in the same action.

HUAC was a House committee which Senator Joseph McCarthy was not involved with.  His search for Communists in government, industry, and the armed services was something entirely different.

Just pointing out the hotspots in Tacoma.

And I wish I had more time to seem the interesting sights.  :)

January is probably not the best time for sightseeing.

They are in the process of finishing a second Silver Cloud Inn on the waterfront.  This one is at the opposite end of Ruston Way.

Is that at your end of the waterfront, where Keith & I walked prior to meeting you and George for lunch?

Yes, that would be the place.

I believe they do.  They also have a shop where they sell misshaped Mountain bars and deformed Roca pieces.

Oh, I got you.  Yes, it is part of what is now called Point Ruston.  When it is finished, there will be condos, apartments, theaters, restaurants, and lots of shops.  It will be a big improvement over the old smelter that used to be there.

As our neighbor was headed out to walk her dog tonight she noticed our lights on in the kitchen and stopped to tell us to look at the river.  There was a Christmas boat parade going by.  Keith took the landscope outside so we could see better.

Well, I'm off to the one and only rehearsal for TAO's "Words, Words, Words."  I'm late! :o

Be back later!

At tonight's Words, Words, Words (http://olytheater.com/words/) rehearsal, we went through all the pieces except one.  The person who's reading the one missing piece is rehearsing Arcadia that (former?) DR Jed is in!

The director of WRECKS is playing the narrator and the adult version of "the kid."
