Well, you've read the notes, the notes were written on the day before the day of the Do, and now it is time for you to post until the day before the day of the Do cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BLITHESOME!
-
First post after BK!
-
From last night...Good night, Tom.
-
Well, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
T.O.D.
My wife makes the best cookies in the world.
Usually, chocolate chip.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Happy Day to all
-
Around 8:45 I will walk over to my old haunt, the Barnes & Noble on 82nd and Broadway. I need to redeem some gift cards and pick up a box of Godiva chocolates for my Christmas brunch hosts. I used to have Christmas brunch wit6h my goddaughter's family, but after her father made it all too clear we were no longer friends my invitations stopped/
Curiously, two night ago I had a dream in which he and I were stuck on a project together, and it was unpleasant.
-
Annabelle woke me at 6:30. She and Thatch wanted to open their presents. I told them it wasn't Christmas yet.
-
Thatch has discovered the joys of an empty Amazon box. He's pouncing on the one I will be taking to the basement very shortly, and I think he and Annabelle slept in it last night. I leave the empty cartons in the apartment for a day. That gives them time to play in it and to imagine from the scents all the places it's been.
-
Oatmeal raisin

-
Good morning, all.
-
Oatmeal raisin
peanut butter
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
-
But they’ve got to be good. Good ingredients and mouth filling chewy texture, as opposed to hard and cheaply mass produced.
-
Show was decent last night. Not the best, with little bloopers here and there, as it was the first night back after a distracting week for everyone. Which is mainly unfortunate because the videographer was there, doing what videographers do. But it played fine for the people.
-
Show tonight, then on to my friend’s annual Christmas Eve Eve partay which I will be showing up at quite late so I shall have to hope that the better people and at least some of the better food are still around when I arrive.
-

Any new box that they show interest in, we generally leave around for a couple of days as well.
-
I wanted to get to Barnes & Noble early since I knew the store would be packed from my days working there. Well, it was a ghost town. A friend who still works there said it's been terrible, and we suspect its Amazon another online companies.
I remember when I left there in 2004 that the company then was pushing customers to shop online, so perhaps they did themselves in?
-
And guess what moron cannot find the gift cards worth about $70? I was sure they were in my wallet.
-
Some totally unexpected, but extremely welcome, gifts came yesterday. We are now scrambling a little to see if we have any way to get return gifts to those thoughtful people before Monday. (meaning by tomorrow)
-
Thatch has been climbing into my bed in the past few days. I keep hoping that it's because he wants to be with me and Annabelle, but he runs away as soon as he sees me. He and Annabelle have been throwing my Harry Potter DVDs around; they want to watch them and they're impatient because I keep postponing this. Tonight we will watch "Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol."
The Christmas music is on. Annabelle and I need to go through the numerous CDs and find new homes for the ones we don't need to keep. There are far too many. This will have to be during the 6:00 news because she and Thatch are dancing to "Jingle Bell Rock." Over and over.
I should have never given them the remote.
-
LOL....DR ELMORE the cat video you posted yesterday was so FUNNY....I immediately posted it to BookFace.
-
Crab shrimp.....poor DR TCB.....if you haven't seen this, you may find it amusing....

TOD:
Almond Windmill cookies, even though they don't have almond chips in them anymore.
Ginger Snaps and Pecan Sandies.
-
It sounds as if MR BK has lots of amenities right in the new neighborhood!
-
We are having a dusting of snow today without more predicted for tomorrow.
-
On the 5 p.m. news last night, there was a report about a back up on I-70. A laundry detergent delivery truck had turned over and spilled its contents on the highway!
I messaged my sister because my niece and her husband were heading here from Maryland. She told them. They were about an hour away from the the trouble spot......
HOWEVER....the inner web told them that the problem was cleared up.....they didn't EXIT....and were stuck for 5 hours in said traffic jam.....
-
This arrived in a holiday e-card from Best Friends, the organization whose adoption event resulted in Annabelle's coming home with me.

I hope DR GEORGE had a good time at the partay.
-
DR CHAS SMITH late comers usually perk up the party.....wear a nice hat.
-
PAGE TWO NON PICTURE DANCE.
-
We haz slowed to a crawl.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! The upstairs and downstairs Palmers are having a nice day of Christmas cocooning and we even have snow showers to enhance the mood. I’ve cleaned up the baking mess I made yesterday and done the initial steps of a molded salad and a cheese spread.
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
Tired. I slept with the NyQuil for about 10 hours and am still tired.
-
Mom’s cookies are the best. She does these chocolate surprise cookies. The base is a chocolate peanut butter cookie. Half way through baking, She puts half a large marshmallow on to, then frosts with a chocolate-coffee icing. Divine.
-
I don’t have the patience for cookies. I’ll make bar cookies or brownies, Congo squares or the like.
-
TOD - last weekend I made gingerbread cut-outs and yesterday I made shortbread cut-outs and pecan snowballs. My shortbread is hard to beat, but Central Pastry’s cut out sugar cookies come close. Theirs cost $1.50 apiece and mine are priceless.
-
Last night I ushered for a live version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It was performed to a taped accompanimen. Well, something went screwy with the music, so they stopped the show. Then it went out again during the bows.
The youngsters didn’t understand and didn’t seem to mind. I did.
-
The house smells of glazed ham. I could eat all of it. Too bad it’s for a friend’s dinner.
Her husband has abdominal cancer, and I’m taking the ham, potatoes air gratin, Salad, Guac and chips, and a tart over to their house.
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe a little over eight hours of sleep.
-
Thank you DR Jrand and DR George. I think just about every photo of me taken since we arrived in Cape Town has my hair blowing in my face ;D
-
DR Jeanne, very close to our hotel we spied a Sunglass Hut and I made a beeline for it 😃 We got lucky it wasn't crowded. Later in the day it was packed.
Sometimes seeing a chain store far from home is comforting.
-
DR Laura I took a photo of the carpet in the hallway near our hotel room. I can't find your cell number to text it and Keith said not to email it until we are home at our computers.
Please send your number so I can text it.
-
But they’ve got to be good. Good ingredients and mouth filling chewy texture, as opposed to hard and cheaply mass produced.
I agree about cheaply massed produced but prefer a bit of crunch to my cookies while Keith prefers the chewy texture.
-
That is sad about Barnes and Noble. DR elmore I hope you find your gift cards.
-
DR elmore will your goddaughter be stopping by to meet Annabelle and Thatch?
-
The best store bought cookies were Pogens which I cannot get anymore.
-
Jane, Facebook reminded me today that you and Keith were in San Antonio at this time last year. Where did that year go?
-
So, it is SA for Christmas? San Antonio one year, South Africa another year?
-
For store-bought cookies, I like those crisp Swedish gingerbread cookies that World Market sells.
-
Finished Wonder Woman. In the final credits, which go on way too long, I think there is the worst theme song I've heard for a movie in ages.
-
Jane, Facebook reminded me today that you and Keith were in San Antonio at this time last year. Where did that year go?
It was a wonderful visit. We got lucky with the weather warming up for us.
-
For store-bought cookies, I like those crisp Swedish gingerbread cookies that World Market sells.
Hmmm, I should look for them though I expect they are not as good ad Pogens were. Is there a brand name on the World Market cookies?
-
Not only is Cape Town lovely but the areas surrounding it are as well. We took a small group all day tour which included African penguins, a boat ride to Seal Harbour, Cape of Good Hope, and botanical gardens. Most of the drive was along the scenic coast which is exceptionally beautiful.
-
I love my oatmeal cookies. My sour cream cookies are pretty good too.
-
That is sad about Barnes and Noble. DR elmore I hope you find your gift cards.
Me, too!
-
DR elmore will your goddaughter be stopping by to meet Annabelle and Thatch?
I suppose she will at some point. She says she wants to, but she's got a job, auditions, family and a boyfriend taking up much of her time.
-

I don't have a smart phone, Jane, so I wouldn't be able to see a photo.
-
Today's produce box contained zucchini, yellow squash, corn, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, eggplant, garlic, dates, and a blanket.
-
I don't love eggplant, but I ate one for breakfast.
-
DR Laura I forgot you don't have a smart phone. It isn't the most exciting carpet and can wait.
-

Young and busy 😊

Hello, everyone.
-
Healthy vibes to all, but especially DRs John G, TCB, Jrand, and DH Richard. Hope that all who were ailing are now feeling at least somewhat better.
-
Thank you DR Jrand and DR George. I think just about every photo of me taken since we arrived in Cape Town has my hair blowing in my face ;D

Yes, I agree. Normally, when I travel I prefer to NOT see the same American chains that i see at home. But your sunglass case is a notable exception.

More stories for the Annabelle and Thatch series?

Today's produce box contained zucchini, yellow squash, corn, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, eggplant, garlic, dates, and a blanket.
Was the blanket for your benefit or that of the produce?
-
I read an interesting article about how all the damaged clothing that's donated to charities gets cleaned and made into blankets. These are the blankets that are given by the fire department or EMTs when there's a disaster. As someone who likes to see items recycled, this warms my heart.
-
Laura, was that the type of blanket you received?
-
TOD:
Many years ago I modified my favorite oatmeal cookie recipe to use less sugar. I quite liked it; I didn't feel it needed the extra sugar. Whether other people would agree, I don't know.
I no longer bake cookies. If I want cookies I buy them. Tate's makes good chocolate chip/walnut cookies. Trader Joe's carries some chocolate biscotti that are to die for, but I can't handle that much chocolate any more.
-
It feels really cold here today. The forecast was for 66 degrees, but I'm dressed like I do in the 50s--turtleneck, fleece jacket, jeans, socks, and I'm also curled up under a warm throw. I hope I'm not getting sick.
-
Stay warm and healthy!
TTFN.

Decided to watch PATTON.....haven't seen it all the way through since I saw it on the BIG SCREEN

Most recipes don't need the amount of sugar called for. The worst in this category, for me, is coleslaw, which needs no sugar at all.
-
Healthy vibes to all, but especially DRs John G, TCB, Jrand, and DH Richard. Hope that all who were ailing are now feeling at least somewhat better.
Thank you, Jeanne. I've had better days, but thankfully I had nothing to do on this Night of the Radishes, except for making dinner for some friends, which I have to deliver in an hour or so.
-
Laura, was that the type of blanket you received?
Yes, it seems so. It can't be laundered. So it is a temporary blanket. I'm debating whether to use it myself or take it over to the church and see if the homeless guy who camps there needs it.
-
If he's still there. He hides in the bushes until I leave, so I'm not sure if he still camps there or not.
-
John, if you leave some of the sugar out of a recipe, doesn't it affect the consistency of the dough?
-
I didn't realize it was the Night of the Radishes. Thanks for the reminder DR JOHN G.
It sounds like a Bert I. Gordon movie with John Agar.
-
Annabelle and I went down to Val's apartment to give him his Christmas gift. He, his beautiful wife Ajdita, and I had a nice visit and Annabelle explored their apartment. When we returned, she wasn't happy that Thatch had taken over her Amazon carton and she ran him out. He's been rubbing against me all afternoon, but I suspect he will spend the evening avoiding me and the eye medicine.
-
Fannie Lou is up for adoption. This cat has the biggest smile I have ever seen.
-
Getting ready for the do vibes for MR BK.
-
Aww. Fannie Lou.
-
Aww. Fannie Lou.
I love her!
-
The post brought me a new set of sheets. The sheets came in a plastic case with a zipper and they were packed into a large plastic bag. The big plastic bag is a real success. Annabelle and Thatch are playing hide and seek between the plastic bag and the amazon carton.
-
If there are any handles on the bags, paper or otherwise, please be sure to cut them. Joshie got caught in a handle, even as old as he was. It was his foot, but he panicked and ran all over.
I walked in the kitten room once and was horrified to see one kitten had a handle around his neck. If he had struggled with it much longer, it would have strangled him.
-
I'm trying to learn how to take photos and send them. DRs Ginny and ChasSmith are my trial run.
-
I think it was a handle of one of the collapsible laundry hampers.
-
I am making my eggnog for tomorrow night.

I'm keeping an eye on such things.

It can happen when you are away. Also, it's no fun chasing a panicky cat.
-

My little Annabelle panics every time she gets out of the apartment and I have to chase her down. Thank God she talks loudly when she's overwhelmed and scared!
-
I've tried to take some photos of the two of them. I'm not sure about sending them.
-
John, if you leave some of the sugar out of a recipe, doesn't it affect the consistency of the dough?
It can. Play with it.
-
OK, here goes...Thatch:
-
I am making my eggnog for tomorrow night.
What time should I be there? I love egg nog.
-
And Annabelle in today's Amazon box:
-
I didn't realize it was the Night of the Radishes. Thanks for the reminder DR JOHN G.
It sounds like a Bert I. Gordon movie with John Agar.
My personal Chinese chef didn't realize it, but he gave me a bone broth with radishes and lotus root in it. It's what's for dinner.
-
Fannie Lou is up for adoption. This cat has the biggest smile I have ever seen.
That is a huge smile.
-
And Annabelle in today's Amazon box:
Lovely kitties.
-
After church tomorrow night, John.
-
Aww, Thatch and Annabelle.
-
After church tomorrow night, John.
I would love to join you for Christmas Eve services. It reminds me of a scene toward the end of The Bishop's Wife where David Niven wants to skip church and get straight to the egg nog.
Speaking of which, I have just started that movie.
-
I have four pounds of garlic in the oven roasting for a dish I'm making tomorrow. I can just imagine what that aroma will be like in about 10 minutes.
-

B&N didn't do it to themselves...everyone was pushing on-line sales and the world listened. :-\

A few days ago, I went to a local restaurant and got some garlic french fries with extra garlic. It had much more garlic than I would've expected, but it was so good! I ate some of them there at the restaurant, took some home, ate the fries, and have a whole bunch of garlic left. Yum!
-
Thank you DR Jrand and DR George. I think just about every photo of me taken since we arrived in Cape Town has my hair blowing in my face ;D

Aww, Thatch and Annabelle.
My exact reaction.
-
Let's move on.
-
Five!
-
DR Ginny, you are amazing!
-
I need to stop writing and rest my arm/shoulder. I should be sleeping and instead I am awake worrying I will not be able ble to move it enough by morning to wash my hair or use a fork to eat
-
The house smells heavenly.
-
DR Ginny, you are amazing!
Aw, shucks...

The first picture of this cat was so cute. But this one is a bit scary. That is a crazy big smile!
-
DR Ginny, you are amazing!
Aw, shucks...
I don't know why the photos are so out of focus. This is clearly a work in progress.
They're still great pictures.
-
DR JRand67, my copy of A Short History of a Small Place arrived today.
-

I don't know why the photos are so out of focus. This is clearly a work in progress.
Try holding your breath while you take the picture.
-
Well, I've processed more than half of the garlic, but I'm running out of steam. I still have a dozen bulbs left to deal with.
-
So, I'm more listening to than watching Rudolph and Charlie Brown Christmas.
-
Magoo is next.
-
I did not leave the house all day. So can someone explain how it's already after eight??? I don't know what the HELL I did today, actually, other than eat tuna sandwiches, not pick up any packages, have a flower delivery that actually went to the old house - thankfully the delivery gal had my cell number and called me and came here fifteen minutes later - flowers from the Pogues. What else?
-
Oh, wrote lots more commentary and am down to the last five songs, so I can finish that either tonight or tomorrow.
-
And finished watching IT. Not quite sure how it became the highest grossing horror film of all time or if I even believe that.
-
Guess I'll start with the slicing and dicing and mincing and chopping and making the tuna pasta salad.
-
I spent most of the day braving the crowds
-
Stopped at the credit union to drop some checks into my account
-
Went to Michaels to take advantage of their 70% off sale on Christmas decor
-
I picked up 3 25foot spools of wired ribbon for less than $3 a piece, a 24 inch decorated wreath for $7 and a "spray" for $11
-
Then I stopped in to church and polished the brass altar rails and set up for the morning Misa
-
The pastors elected not to have aSaturday night service or any English language services tomorrow morning since there will be four services tomorrow starting at 4 and the last ending at midnight
-
I'll ru over to the church after the Misa is over and reset fir the first of the services
-
I am even more tired reading about Vixmom's day than I was before.
-
I spoke with the Vixter tiday, she has received the box we sent and we the one she sent
-
Then I went to BJs where I bought the majority of our needed groceries and Christmas dinner needs
-
But there was not a single bone in Rib roast to be had
-
So then I went to the Stop and Shop where I bought some honey crisp apples, some Lemons and a standing rib roast
-
But they had no skim milk
-
So off I went to Dairy Barn fir the milk
-
Then I came home and put everything away
-
And had a cup of coffee
-
And discovered Vixdad's car is broken
-
He said that yesterday the engine suddenly cut out while he was driving
-
Today it seemed fine At first the the check engine light came on so he came home
-
Of course the earliest a mechanic will be open is Tuesday
-
Then we spoke with Vixdad's folks in Canada
-
Vixdad's sister and her husband had been there for the day but they had left just minutes before we called as it had started snowing and they had a 3 hour trip back home
-
Then I ran up to Savers to drop off 6 bags of clothes
-
And I went to Panera and bought a couple of gift cards for my Mom
-
Because it's just not Christmas without a Bette Davis impersonator singing Feliz Navidad.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzlZ7RjLT9M&feature=share
-
Then I realized that we had no ice cream or hydrogen peroxide or paper towels. So I went to Shoprite
-
Then I came home and ironed the church linens that were waiting fir me in the dryer
-
I washed them this morning
-
And this was all today? Vixmom packs a LOT into one day!
-
Vehicle vibes for Vixdad!
-
I'll bring those with me tomorrow
-
Then I came home and put that stuff away
-
I wrapped the one remaining Christmas present. I'll deliver it tomorrow.
-
Then I wrapped presents for my mom
-
She said she's feeling little better btw
-
Thank you all for the vibes
-
I'm one of those who thinks that Christmas shouldn't fall on a Monday. It's just not right. Anyone can see that.
-
Then I made dinner... Chicken quesadilla
-
She said she's feeling little better btw
Glad to hear it.
-
Jack, I forgot to mention how nice your living room looks in the new colors.
-
And now we're watching Doctor Who
-
John G, FOUR lbs of garlic? No sinus tonight! No vampires, either.
-
Good night.
-
I'm one of those who thinks that Christmas shouldn't fall on a Monday. It's just not right. Anyone can see that.
I am quite pleased about it. Two days off before Christmas in which to get things done
-
John G, FOUR lbs of garlic? No sinus tonight! No vampires, either.
Vixdad is not a fan of garlic I cannot imagine his reaction if I were to cook 4 lbs of it in the oven
-
Vehicle vibes for Vixdad!

Very good news!

Not sure I can get the rest of the way through these. Of course, I've never tackled War and Peace either...
-
I am making my eggnog for tomorrow night.
Damn it. I guess now I have a plane to catch.
-
Good evening.
-
I have slept the evening away.
-
My head is back to being plugged up
-
No snow here, yet, but frightfully cold tonight.
-
Snow isn’t expected until tomorrow night.
-
They aren’t talking a blizzard, maybe 2 inches of snow, but not everyone will see it.
-
