Today's produce box contained zucchini, yellow squash, corn, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, eggplant, garlic, dates, and a blanket.

I don't love eggplant, but I ate one for breakfast.

DR Laura I forgot you don't have a smart phone.  It isn't the most exciting carpet and can wait.

DR elmore will your goddaughter be stopping by to meet Annabelle and Thatch?

I suppose she will at some point. She says she wants to, but she's got a job, auditions, family and a boyfriend taking up much of her time.

Young and busy 😊

Healthy vibes to all, but especially DRs John G, TCB, Jrand, and DH Richard. Hope that all who were ailing are now feeling at least somewhat better.

Thank you DR Jrand and DR George.   I think just about every photo of me taken since we arrived in Cape Town has my hair blowing in my face ;D

It adds interest to the photo.

DR Jeanne, very close to our hotel we spied a Sunglass Hut and I made a beeline for it 😃  We got lucky it wasn't crowded.  Later in the day it was packed.

Sometimes seeing a chain store far from home is comforting.

Yes, I agree. Normally, when I travel I prefer to NOT see the same American chains that i see at home. But your sunglass case is a notable exception.

Thatch has been climbing into my bed in the past few days.  I keep hoping that it's because he wants to be with me and Annabelle, but he runs away as soon as he sees me.  He and Annabelle have been throwing my Harry Potter DVDs around; they want to watch them and they're impatient because I keep postponing this.  Tonight we will watch "Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol."

The Christmas music is on.  Annabelle and I need to go through the numerous CDs and find new homes for the ones we don't need to keep. There are far too many. This will have to be during the 6:00 news because she and Thatch are dancing to "Jingle Bell Rock." Over and over.

I should have never given them the remote.

More stories for the Annabelle and Thatch series?

Was the blanket for your benefit or that of the produce?

I read an interesting article about how all the damaged clothing that's donated to charities gets cleaned and made into blankets. These are the blankets that are given by the fire department or EMTs when there's a disaster. As someone who likes to see items recycled, this warms my heart.

TOD:

Many years ago I modified my favorite oatmeal cookie recipe to use less sugar. I quite liked it; I didn't feel it needed the extra sugar. Whether other people would agree, I don't know.

I no longer bake cookies. If I want cookies I buy them. Tate's makes good chocolate chip/walnut cookies. Trader Joe's carries some chocolate biscotti that are to die for, but I can't handle that much chocolate any more.

It feels really cold here today. The forecast was for 66 degrees, but I'm dressed like I do in the 50s--turtleneck, fleece jacket, jeans, socks, and I'm also curled up under a warm throw. I hope I'm not getting sick.

Most recipes don't need the amount of sugar called for. The worst in this category, for me, is coleslaw, which needs no sugar at all.

Thank you, Jeanne. I've had better days, but thankfully I had nothing to do on this Night of the Radishes, except for making dinner for some friends, which I have to deliver in an hour or so.

Yes, it seems so. It can't be laundered. So it is a temporary blanket. I'm debating whether to use it myself or take it over to the church and see if the homeless guy who camps there needs it.

If he's still there. He hides in the bushes until I leave, so I'm not sure if he still camps there or not.

John, if you leave some of the sugar out of a recipe, doesn't it affect the consistency of the dough?

I didn't realize it was the Night of the Radishes.  Thanks for the reminder DR JOHN G.

It sounds like a Bert I. Gordon movie with John Agar.

Annabelle and I went down to Val's apartment to give him his Christmas gift.  He, his beautiful wife Ajdita, and I had a nice visit and Annabelle explored their apartment.  When we returned, she wasn't happy that Thatch had taken over her Amazon carton and she ran him out.  He's been rubbing against me all afternoon, but I suspect he will spend the evening avoiding me and the eye medicine.

The post brought me a new set of sheets.  The sheets came in a plastic case with a zipper and they were packed into a large plastic bag.  The big plastic bag is a real success. Annabelle and Thatch are playing hide and seek between the plastic bag and the amazon carton.

If there are any handles on the bags, paper or otherwise, please be sure to cut them. Joshie got caught in a handle, even as old as he was. It was his foot, but he panicked and ran all over.

I walked in the kitten room once and was horrified to see one kitten had a handle around his neck. If he had struggled with it much longer, it would have strangled him.
