I watched the first episode of Season Three of Garrow's Law, then stayed up too late reading Mary Berry's biography, which I've almost finished.  The kitties joined me around 4:30, when the apartment got really cold, and I got very little sleep after that.  I spent too much time petting little Thatch and worrying about his heart.  As a result, I'm quite groggy this morning

The babies and birds are fed.  Thatch has taken over the Amazon carton and Annabelle's waiting for the birds to arrive.  I need to make the bed, tidy up, and take care of the litter before I bundle Thatch up for the vet and then head to City Center.  I also need to call my 96 year-old friend Bob and check on him before I head out.

I was reading about cat stress last night.  I think Annabelle's clingy neediness may be a result of her being stressed out by the noise from the elevator work.  When I came back from emptying the litter, she escaped and ran up to the fourth floor.  She must smell the lesbian couple's dog.

Thatch somehow knows he's going to the vet this morning and he's been running from me whenever I walk anywhere near him. Luckily, I just caught him and he's now in the carrier.  I hate keeping him there for two hours, but I cannot risk trying to catch him an hour from now.

Thatch and I have returned from the vet and we've learned the results of his his echocardiogram: a problem with the muscle controlling the left ventricle of his heart, which is already too thick and will continue to affect his blood flow. He will be on a daily medication for the remainder of his life to slow the heart rate to slow down the muscle's thickening, eventually closing down the ventricle.

I have no idea what this means for his mortality or its longevity, but a part of me died today. I will love him, care for him, and pray to God that he has a long and healthy life.

That's all you can do. But many times the right medication is all that's needed.

At least he's had the test, you know the results, and you have a solution. You know what you're dealing with. That's half the battle.

I just bought three boxes of Sambucol.  Apparently all my cheerleading has caused a shortage in LA - unbelievable.  Literally no stores have it save for a Vitamin Shoppe I found.  And it's out of stock everywhere online - Amazon has two sellers currently selling it - at seventy dollars a box.  Needless to say, both received scathing notes from me.

I buy it from vitacost.com. Mondays are the best days to buy it as they usually announce a new sale, often 20% off their already-discounted price. During cold and flu season I find that many retailers are out of vitamin C, echinacea, and yes, sometimes Sambucol. Best to stock up.

The other day Keith went to Safeway and forgot to compare the price of Haagen-Daz ice cream.  It is usually a good price there but Fred Meyer had it on sale.  I asked for a small coffee and a small vanilla bean.  He said it wasn't on sale.  Today he went again, still didn't compare the price, and purchased two large vanilla.

I am eating the vanilla but really don't want it.  I need to find a neighbor who wants this.

If only he would look at the shopping list on his phone.  I thought this is why is got Alexa for us  ::)

Of course by the time I go to Fred Meyer the sale will be over ;D

I am not really kvetching as I appreciate that Keith does most of the shopping :)

Started watching Gimme Shelter. Turns out J.B. is a phenomenal Rolling Stones fan. He really danced like crazy through both Jumping Jack Flash and Satisfaction.

I even managed to get in a trip to the McNay Art Museum, which has free Thursdays. They were also having an art book sale. I got there shortly after the sale started. There were about 10 people in front of me. The sale was really old Christie's magazines and old art magazines, not really any books. When I finished, the line snaked around the corner and up the staircase. I don't think they were expected anywhere near that many people.

It's a dyslexic version of J.B. The bird does have a new book out, but I didn't know Vixmom had ordered a copy. It's called Mick and Me. It's his impressions of his time with the Stones.

Any plans for a musical?

Listening to Bruckner.  I've tried several times to love his symphonies, and a couple of them I don't mind, but I'm not in love with them like I am with Mr. Mahler.

There are few songs of this era I don't like.
Favorites are:
The White Cliffs of Dover
A Nightingale Sang in Barclay Square
Long Ago and Far Away
I'll Get By
When the Lights Go On All Over the World
Long Ago and Far Away
It's Been a Long Long Time
I'm Beginning to See the Light
I'll Be Seeing You
Coming in on a Wing and a Prayer

WOW!  You don't like those songs?

Those are some of my all time favorites.

My late friend and client, Sammy Fain, wrote "I'll Be Seeing You".

 :(

To rephrase,  I like most songs of this era.  I love all the songs I named and many more.

Title: Re: HIGH AND LOW

Well, the movie that I ushered for wasn't what I thought, which was a movie by a local student.  I didn't get to be in the theater when everything started, so I don't know exactly what was going on, but the movie was a documentary about adults in Indiana who had the opportunity to, instead of getting a GED, to actually go back to high school as an adult.
Title: Re: HIGH AND LOW
Post by: George on January 26, 2018, 12:11:30 AM
The movie was very well done and quite touching.  Evidently, there was a class at SPSCC whose students were in the same situation.  They went back to high school as adults instead of just getting their GEDs.

After the movie, the SPSCC (South Puget Sound Community College) students answered questions and told their stories.
