Today, I'm taking my niece to the Skyline Drive-In (http://www.skylinedrive-in.com) to see Ocean's 8.  Because of her hearing issues, she can't go to normal movies, but at this drive-in, you use your own radio and she can control the volume.

The first movie that's being shown is Adrift that neither of us wants to see, but we need to get there when it opens to get a good spot.

And I don't think you pay any less if you only come in for the second movie, so we'll watch both movies.

It's too damned hot.  I slept quite poorly.  I turned off the AC around 10, went to bed, and I could not get to sleep.  Thatch crawled in with me around 12:30.  He slept well.  I did not.  I think Annabelle's been teaching him how to take over 90% of the bed.  Around 5:00 this morning, I turned on the AC.

I remember bits of one dream: my brother Randy, my actor friend Time Winters, the late Loyce Martin, and others were at a party in Middletown, OH.  Randy and I were discussing when we should pick up the pizza we ordered.

When my mother died in 1994, my dad made everything belonging to her into a shrine.  Much as my brothers, sisters-in-law, and I, as well as others, suggested he get rid of things, he was quite resistant.  In the 1970s or early 1980s, she drove this Cadillac.  I drove it occasionally when I returned to visit, but by 1994 it was on its last legs.

The car sat in my dad's garage until he died, then Randy put it in his garage until they moved a couple of years ago.  He then set it out on a patch of their large lawn in hopes someone would purchase it.  Several weeks ago, I had to have the title notarized as executor for my dad's estate since there was finally an inquiry about the car.  It sold for very little, and Randy sent me an Amazon gift card as my third of the sale.  I spent it all on cat food and litter/

Yesterday afternoon, this adorable kitten, abandoned bu its owner, was dying:  the ACC was in desperate search for someone to rescue it and get it to a vet.  Last night, Magnificat Cat Rescue posted that they had got him too late to a vet and that he would be euthanized.  I was heartbroken, since I have at the moment around $50 to last me until July 18,  and I could do no more than wish it well.  This morning, I found this current state of things from Magnificat on FB:

Back last night from our 8 day Mississippi River cruise from New Orleans to Memphis.  Three hours later, our air conditioner went out...and the temp here in Austin is over 100.

Hopefully, the repair man will be here today.

In my dream I was getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom or something, and my house was this magnificent century-old mansion which seemed to be in the middle of a city. I decided to walk out back to look around and to see what these people (guests?) were doing (it was still the middle of the night), and I didn't get much farther than the back porches and stone walls and getting a glimpse of the gardens or whatnot before I, sadly, woke up.

That was easier than making a deposit at the bank, very clever.

Greetings from Buffalo Niagara International Airport!     I’m not sure why it’s still “international” since it only serves domestic destinations as far as I know. Maybe there are charter flights to other countries.   There used to be flights to Toronto but not any longer.

Then he took me to see his new “ninja academy,”.   If you’ll remember Patrick was a contestant on “American Ninja Warrior” about five years  ago.  The show is so popular that there are places where people can do obstacles such as on the show. .  His is only for children.  They have birthday parties and summer camp.  It seems to be a hit.

I noticed many years ago that the bar was set much higher for women pop singers than men. There are many successful mediocre (and even down right bad) male pop/rock singers, but females always have great pipes. It's a typical sexist double standard. Mick Jagger and David Bowie have fairly mediocre voices and Bob Dylan is downright bad. And I suspect it's Randy Newman's voice (somewhere between mediocre and bad) that prompted Bruce's question. None of these men are favorites of mine. But coming up with even one bad successful female pop singer is a challenge. And, no, rap artists like Nicki Minaj don't count!

Okay, it was difficult, but I finally thought of one mediocre pop singer that I actually like and that's Ringo Starr.

This is "supposed" to be the last day for 90 degrees. Mid-80s tomorrow (thank God), a couple of degrees warmer on Thursday, then a nice drop on Friday & Saturday.

I'm sorry, that's the forecast for my area. NYC is unfortunately always a little, um, warmer.

They just posted this update:

“He is critical. He is awake and lifts his head, but she is worried that they are having a hard time maintaining his blood pressure. That is the main issue right now, because low blood pressure means inadequate perfussion and can lead to organ failure. She actually remembers him from his previous hospitalization. The reason they could not find his charts yesterday is that he had been hospitalized as Peter Mego last time. She said that when they opened his belly last night it was full of pus and debris. The next 24 hours are critical, but she feels he has a chance.”

Tuesday afternoon greetings!  We are back from a delightful day at the New York Historical Society Museum and Library.  Saw the noon showings of both introductory films, then looked at the first floor exhibits and the shop.  Had a pleasant lunch in the cafe, then went to the second floor for the reason we chose that venue, an exhibit honoring the late Bill Cunningham.  Also admired the library and the museum's extensive collection of Tiffany lamps.  Back at the hotel, just ahead of a thunderstorm, resting until it's time to head for the Shubert for HELLO, DOLLY.

DR Laura, here is this afternoon's report on little Mego from Mafnificat.  He reminds me so much of Thatch.
Mego is still alive, but not stable medically. The major issue is that his blood pressure keeps dropping - not as bad as last night, when it was so low as to be unmeasurable, but still very concerning.

When the surgeons opened his belly last night, they found no leakages, but plenty of pus, debris, and adhesions. Mego is still in septic shock, which is extremely serious in humans and in animals. In shock, low blood pressure means inadequate perfussion (blood flow) which in turn can quickly lead to organ failure. That's why he is on two vasopressors, on top of the two antibiotics and fentanyl for the pain. The sweater is to keep him warm, because he is also hypothermic.

He is very fragile, so we call every two hours for an update. The next 24 hours are going to be crucial.

Poor kitty. My first thought was it was Thatch when I saw the photo. I hope he makes it.

Thank God it isn't Thatch!  He's doing so well.  He hates his heart medicine and I sometimes have to chase him down to administer it, but he doesn't seem to hold it against me.  He shows me daily in so many ways how much he loves me, and I am very grateful.  the only thing he hates is being held.

Poor little Mego frustrates me because I want to help take care of him and I can't afford to donate a cent.  i still have no idea how I'm coughing up my third of the Ohio property taxes this month.  Wish that damned property would sell!

I've really been having trouble sleeping lately. I don't know why. My sinuses have been awful, too. Until this year I've had very little allergy trouble since moving back to California. Between the two I have not been a happy camper!

We're expecting the horrid high temps that the East Coast has been having, starting on Thursday. Ugh! I modified my plans for the week and was able to get several errands done today--a delightful 72 degrees--so I can stay inside in AC over the weekend.

Listening to Sarah Vaughan do Michel Legrand with Legrand conducting his orchestra.  It's a weird album and I've always found Sarah Vaughan a little fussy as a singer, even though I like her.  But the real problem is that the mix is completely dry - no air anywhere.  Singers and instruments need air.

Things are moving along home wise and Mousetrap Wise....so we shall see what we shall see.

The acting is what I will generously call a "mixed bag".....

Of course we had lots of drama, etc, at my mother's event....but things seem to have settled down....and financially all seems well....not FLUSH....but well.  We shall see what the next few weeks will bring.

Right now I'm back to watching Intolerance. The scenes of Babylon were truly incredible. No CGI creating the epic scale of those scenes.

Meanwhile, the slaughter of the Huguenots is hours away and the French royals are playing with toys as if it's all a game.

I saw this film once before back in high school. I don't remember the just how revealing the costumes were on the women or how explicit the violence was.

And the print I saw was a flawed black and white, not like this pristine colored restoration. Somehow the colors of the scenes, especially copper, give it added beauty.

Jeanne, I finished Murder at the Brightwell today. I enjoyed it and will likely check out another of her mysteries soon. I have a half dozen other books to listen to first, including The Haunting of Hill House and the first Poldark novel, which just came in today.

John G, glad you enjoyed MURDER AT THE BRIGHTWELL. Book #5 in the series is coming out soon, so I presume that sales are good and there will be more to come. I haven't heard anything about a TV series, but I think it would work well. A wealthy upper-class couple, both relatively young and very attractive, who solve mysteries, and set in the 1930s.  Sounds like something PBS would like,

All 2:47 minutes of Intolerance are now over. The extras are actually the two films that he later made taking two stories out of the film and telling them sequentially. So, I may not watch all of both.

Finished with my viewing.  Listening to Margaret Whiting do Jerome Kern.  She's very smooth and velvety but the equivalent of a male crooner of the ordinary variety.  The Russ Garcia orchestrations are lovely.
