Well, you've read the notes, the notes were coconutty and toasted, and now it is time for you to post until the toasted cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LEGERDEMAIN!
-
First post after BK!
-
Yesterday was supposed to be a day of not doing very much, but it wasn't.
-
After I woke up late and checked my e-mails and Twitter (don't hate me...I only follow Kathy Griffin, John Fugelsang and Lin-Manuel Miranda, and a couple of friends), I left to help my friend Margo move her daughter's bed so that she (Margo) could paint the room now that the daughter has moved out. I also helped tape part of the ceiling while we chatted.
-
After that, I went home, parked my car and walked to the local Meconi's Italian Subs (http://www.meconissubs.com) for a half Combo, Cosmo style (toasted) and a diet Coke. It was all quite delish, as usual. I also read my Kindle as I was eating, also as usual. ;D
-
I walked back home and remembered that my sister had asked if I could get a couple of things for her from Home Depot because she was going to Seattle for a concert. I got the things and brought them to her house. Her daughter asked if I could help with some things, so I did. When I came home, I started playing my Nintendo and totally lost track of time...again.
-
Now I need to ketchup on yesterday's posts.
-
DR George, you are such a nice and helpful man, can I adopt you? I don't have anyone in my family like you!

Pay for my flight, room and board, and you can probably rent me. ;)

Last night, Jrand wrote:
Last night was the run through for SISTER ACT....we started one hour and ten minutes LATE >:( ...at which time they decided they were going to use microphones....but the tape the man brought didn't work, so everyone was struggling... :-[
Jrand, during both Hairspray last year and Legally Blonde this year, people had trouble with mic tape sticking to their skin. I don't know if you know this (or if this was the issue with the Sister Act cast), but some years ago I had learned that if you use alcohol swabs and clean your skin where you want to put the tape, that will immensely help the tape stick to skin. I brought both casts inexpensive boxes of the swabs and everyone loved that. Just a suggestion...if you and the cast didn't already know this. :)

George, what are your rates? If I can afford you, I'm in!
-
George, what are your rates? If I can afford you, I'm in!
Well, first I have to audition for a local production of A Christmas Story, and if I get in, I won't be available until the new year, and then my rates will automatically go up.

George, if I have to wait for you, the deal is off, but if you're ever in the area I'll cook for you.
-
Who's cooking for me, damn it all?
-
George, if I have to wait for you, the deal is off, but if you're ever in the area I'll cook for you.
Thanks, jan! If I'm ever in the area, I'll definitely take you up on the offer! :D

I finished that horrid recording of Porgy and Bess and am now listening to our new release - mono, a live performance, but so much energy and incredible musicianship comes across and I'll take that any day of the week - you have never heard a Porgy and Bess like this, I'm telling you. The tempos are breathtaking and there are times when it's really funny - in fact the biggest laughs in this one are non-existent in the Houston version because the tempos suck the comedy out of it. I don't know what else the director of this live version did, but boy did he understand this opera and how it should be played. And Cab Calloway is something else.
-
I may have to just stay up late and finish it.
-
Bruce, if you ever ate anything but hot dogs, I'd cook up something.
-
I eat lots of stuff - and very few hot dogs :) I'm ready, I'm willing, I'm able. :)
-
Well, I need to get to sleep.
Good night jan and BK, and have a good day, all!
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Brother Robbins is gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Good morning, all.
-
There’s been no improvement. Brother Robbins is still gone.
-
Now I have to take out that Houston recording. I don’t remember hearing what BK is describing, but it’s been years since I gave it a spin and I’ve upgraded my ears since. I think mine is still the vinyl, but I might have both. Have to go look.
-
BK, did you ever listen to that first Cleveland recording? Maazel conducting?
It’s an odd one. I need to re-hear that, too.
Oh, this looks interesting:
https://www.nytimes.com/1975/08/24/archives/maazel-and-cleveland-orchestra-record-the-first-complete-porgy-and.html
-
OMG. It’s interesting on many levels. 1975 was really a different world.
And I’d completely forgotten that P&B wasn’t even allowed to be staged then. But how was Houston able to do it? I know the MET staging in ‘83 or ‘84 was considered a breakthrough, but was that for more reason than just being their first production of it?
-
Good morning!
-
Hey, Page 2!

DR FJL, this constant bashing of City Center and Jack Viertel here and elsewhere over events that happened over five years ago is not good. It's certainly obsessive, but I am afraid you are only hurting yourself and I hate to see this.
-
Barefoot in the Park est mort......
-
Thanks DR GEORGE I shall try your suggestion....it sounds great...and practical.
I think tonight is a dress rehearsal....I think....we shall see.
-
CBS wiped out the whole Monday night schedule, and the new replacement comedies don't look like much to me....we shall see....

Thanks. I hear what you're saying. And I appreciate the sincerity of your feelings about Jack.
Five years is still within any NY statute of limitations, but most relevant, the 54 Below owners took a shocking, severeaction this year based on Jack Viertel's opinion 5 years ago, an opinion which he held on to.
-
Deleting.

And regarding that festival with the 25 shows, my show (with great co-workers and cast) got nominations for best production, the book/lyrics, best actress in the festival, even a unique category they did for best publicity work!
And my leading lady won for best actress. But they had to face, and I understood their plight in this case, they could not afford to choose me or any of my work again since but would mean no chatter for the festival in ATC, which was a key audience low-budget ad source for them.
-
This was their February/March festival. Their summer festival that same year, and their cabaret festival, of course, did get full ATC coverage. Message clearly sent!
-
Larry, since you said this today, just to recap: (sometimes the smoking gun is not evident while the emotions of what he was doing are going on. He was getting angry and sarcastic over something that it made no logical sense that he was getting angry about. Why did Encores, or City Center, or the City Center law firm care so much about Talkin Broadway, for heaven's sake, that such an exchange would even happen? I didn't know then, but it's looking more clear now. Maybe call it "Smoking Gun's Café")

Fred,
These two things are unrelated, and trying to make a case that they might be is walking down a blind alley for no reason.
I got your messages. I don't keep track of Talkin' Broadway, and, given that you've asked City Center to boycott, I'm surprised you're not doing the same. But whatever Bruce Kimmel may or may not have written doesn't actually interest me -- that's inside baseball stuff, and I don't actually care, though I certainly appreciate your concern.
Best,
Jack
Not a clue in this rich, straight, non-disabled, very powerful, Caucasian man (who’s made a career of works like Hairspray, Dear Evan Hansen, Angels in America, the August Wilson plays, produced the Broadway Finian's Rainbow revival revival) that the idea of protesting discrimination and Human Rights abuse is:
-That they were not letting me in, and I wanted to be allowed in. To all they offer anyone else in the public, any artists. Their networking events. Their discussions.
- That they were not allowing coverage or press of my work, and I wanted them to allow coverage of my work.
- That when I was in a festival with 25 shows (MITF), & they embargoed any press releases that included my work, they left out the whole festival of 25 shows just that period, letting the festival know about choosing my work again.
Then hire a lawyer, take action, and see how it lands. Either finish it or let go of it. I fear that this constant barrage is only making you more of a bête noir that no one will want to work with and I don't like that. I worry that these constant attacks that have gone on for at least three weeks here and on other boards, along with a flurry of emails to City Center and others, will hurt you more than anyone else.
Several years ago, at an Encores! production, I ran into Ted Chapin in the lobby, and he made a reference to something I had posted on HHW that very morning. You never know who the guests are reading these posts. Be careful.
-
And again, anyone associated with Non-profit Encores (and City Center big law firm) getting so worked up about banners ads at For-Profit Talkin Broadway was confounding.
-

Right, and why was City Center's lawyer Neil Rosini so insanely worked up about Talkin Broadway winning the January 2013 government complaint?
What's the connection? It made no logical sense at all in 2013. It's pretty clear now, after the facts about 2017-2018 (not conjecture at this point, since an August 12 email from 54 Below) that came out from the matter with 54 Below.
(And yes, with hopes always being that all can resolve amicably, dawdling can happen in looking at things - but there's a rather hard statute of limitations coming to May 16 2019. I can't have a lawyer handle this, as it's getting very clear that it's only when the NY State government handles it, that the rules against retaliation for the Human Rights complaint ever really matter at all to. City Center from a practical matter. If I file a lawsuit, they will retaliate away!!! It's shocking behavior for a Nonprofit.)
The truth is they have been retaliating (just letting their lawyer do the oppressive deeds) even with Human Rights matters when it is illegal (meaning civilly illegal, not criminal) to retaliate. How much worse could City Center get with a real lawsuit, when issues can get beyond Human Rights, and then it's not so clearly unlawful.
-
DataLounge really got caught, and forced Dec 2013/Feb 2014 to expunge all the bizarre stuff that was coming up in searches for me on google, because of the retaliation they did; then the State followed on that retaliation. It sounded at the Feb 2014 hearing in the Bronx like the in-house attorney who appeared from DataLounge/Mediapolis didn't know what they did was against NYS law until NYS Human Rights agency investigated.
(It seems from what they were arguing about Federal law that it may not have been against Federal law.)
This was an area I did relatively poorly in Prof. Bartholet's class in law school.
But it sounds from what was argued like in the Federal law, (compared to NYS) a site back then (2011-2013) must have had much less responsibility for fixing about complaints from people who are talked about, not wanting to be talked about on a publicly available site. (the Twitter battle over the Mike Tyson on Broadway threats, for example)
-
Pop quiz at 11! :)
-
BK, when Jack called what you said "Inside baseball stuff" that doesn't interest him -
I looked it up, and that just means esoteric or highly technical stuff, which is descriptive, not a value judgment.
-
And in other news.....I have finished writing the ceremony for my brother's wedding that is happening on October 6.
-
Will it be on YouTube?
(Some cousins actually did that, just set it to Unlisted.)
-
They said they were surprised when sending the Youtube link around promoted a few people who couldn't attend in person to send gifts.
-
Easy and successful laser treatment vibes for DR TCB!
-
~~~Continued Recovery Vibes for Jane!!~~~
Thank you very much.
-
I doubt it DR FJL.....it's a third wedding for both....
I'm up, I'm up - a little over nine hours of blessed sleep.
DR FJL, this has got to stop. Either piss or get off the pot but please, please, please stop moaning about it. You're only hurting yourself and your reputation as a writer. I'm happy to hear you pun, joke, discuss politics, shows, or the weather. If you feel the need to beat your head against a wall over things that should have been resolved -and seemed to be on some level - over five years ago, I don't want to watch the bloody mess.
-
Letting go of anger is a good thing, as in the end it either destroys or serves no purpose. I certainly was in that situation with what happened in 2001 and the resulting lawsuit that basically wiped me out. Was I angry? You bet. Did I want to scream and yell about it every day? You bet. Did I? Nope. If you go back and read the first year of posts here you'll see that I dealt with it with humor and believe me they and their lawyers were here every day reading every notes and every post in what was then the comments section. I gave them NOTHING, no anger, and it drove them CRAZY. When they deposed me they did every single thing they could to get me to erupt, to blow my top (they were videoing me) - I would not do it, I was calm, funny, charming and within five minutes of me finishing two things happened: My attorney said he'd never seen anyone handle themselves better and they asked to mediate and end everything, which happened literally a day or two later.
Recovering from that was very hard. But I never let anger rule me. If you read Album Produced By you will see that clearly. I got all my negative stuff out of me writing Rewind. It was freeing and wonderful.
They made sure I can't have a lawyer handle this, as City Center's been using our own law firm (different lawyer, of course) in matters against me, and their lawyer in the firm (Neil) chose to ignore my objections that one of his partners (Elliot) has been our only lawyer since the 1990s, and had then (it was Feb. 2013) advised us as recently as a 2010/2011 project. The City Center lawyer Neil insisted I had no dealing with our lawyer since the 1990s. I showed Neil a 19-page fax to Elliot in 2011 with my detailed handwritten cover page, and that I was still in the Client Newsletter list - and yet Neil marched on.
(What recourse do you have against a huge law firm? They have you - if you claim an ethics matter against them, they say, well now you have a grievance against our firm, we can't represent you because of that.)
Oh, let's stop this nonsense, really. We're all here to have fun, to be friends. Breathe.
In other news, I had Taco Bell and more of this incredible ice cream, with which I am now completely obsessed.
Is Larry really gone?
Ditto, breathe.
Every time I breath I have to clear phlegm. Phlegm is the problem.
LOL. I can relate to that. I just laughed which caused me to cough.
I'd delete the posts but I'm worried that might put us back to page 2.
Vuxdads car has been bought by Geico in lieu of repairs, we had to go down to the dealership and remove the plates and empty the trunk. Tomorrow it will be towed away for scrap
-
Good evening, all.
-
We are beyond angry
-
It's been an exhausting weekend.
-
I attended a two-day dance/athleticism workshop, six hours each day.
-
He is getting $3 K...how is he supposed to replace the car?
-
The whole thing is totally ridiculous
-
Muscles that haven't been stretched in decades were suddenly called into use. And the reaction is far from pleasing.
-
It's the beginning of eight weeks of what promises to be intensive work. (The other sessions are only 1.5 hours, three days a week.)
-
We have been spending the day scouring FB marketplace be Craigs list for likely candidates
-
No dice
-
Now to ketchup
-
There were volumes of information that went with it. I hope I can remember even part of it, though the next eight weeks are meant to be reinforcement of all that happened this weekend and going from there.
-
I came home and baked some fish in a salsa verde with lentils and fresh bell pepper on the side.
-
Oh, and ice cream.
-
Hi, Vixmom.
-
Car vibes for you.
-
Hi John,
-
You baked fish in ice cream? You foodie, you
-
I am very distressed by the posts I am reading,I don't see any good coming of this conversation being posted on a public forum
-
DR John G, what is your favorite dance?
It's so interesting you say that. I was just wondering the other day how you're sure your boss doesn't read here.
I generally have said nothing here that I hadn't already written in the reader comments section of the Times.
-
vixmom - More car vibes
-
Yes, as I said before and am saying again - let's have fun here. It's okay to vent about things - we've all done it, but we don't want to put anyone off who is a dear reader. That's not what we're about and it's what separates the wheat from the chaff - although I have no idea what that means. It separates us from other such boards.
Now, who has tried the toasted coconut almond chip ice cream.
-
Page four? Really?
-
How about them Mets?
-
This has been a weird day - I thought it would be relaxing but it has been anything but.
-
I've tried the new "Decadent" Haagen Dazs. It's really good, though I get the feeling that the Decadent concept is just that it has three or more ingredients added besides the ice cream. It's really just classy and good.
-
But I hope they haven't gotten rid of the Trio line with the chocolate (or the white chocolate) layers. I'm thinking they may have stopped the Trio in favor of Decadent.
-
Muscles that haven't been stretched in decades were suddenly called into use. And the reaction is far from pleasing.
I am refraining from commenting only because I might say something that might cost me dearly if Rosie is ever elected President and she wants a crabby old gay lawyer for the Supreme Court.
Hoping TCB will say something later anyway.
-
I thought I meant to type cranky old gay lawyer, but crabby works today.
-
We are beyond angry
I can imagine and am sorry.
He is getting $3 K...how is he supposed to replace the car?
Are there only 3 flavors? I am not interested in the 3 I have seen.
Well I never mention him by name
-
I gotta tell you.
I start a movie - I fall asleep.
I fall asleep - I start a movie.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I can see it's been a difficult day for many DRs. FWIW, tomorrow evening there's a full moon and they do tend to make things crazy.
Vibes to all.
-
Vixmom, I understand how upsetting this is. I've never heard of an insurance company buying a car unless it's been totaled. What did the dealer say--if you don't mind talking about it.
Have you considered leasing?
Mega vibes for a successful resolution.
-
I watched SECRETARIAT.
-
I've never heard of McConnell's ice cream. I'm sticking to coconut milk ice cream. No cholesterol and I tolerate it better. Just as rich and creamy. But I can relate to finding a new treat, particularly when it's affordable.
-
Vibes to all for a CALM and productive week ahead!
-
Continued health vibes to Jane and anyone else who needs them.
-
Good night.
-
DR John G, what is your favorite dance?
It varies with the week. Probably foxtrot, maybe waltz. Or polka. Or hustle.
-
Calm is good. And bright. Bright is good. All is calm, all is bright.
-
McConnell's is pretty darn terrific stuff. But coconut milk ice cream can be, too.
Heck, if it's ice cream, just give it to me.
-
I'm watching a thriller with arty pretensions, never a good idea.
-
My big problem at the moment is that there's more toasted coconut almond chip left and I WANT it. I'd be better off eating three or four ounces of pasta, frankly.
-
Just soaked in epsom salts for a while. Hoping that does the trick.
-
Now I'm off to read some more of my latest Zola novel, La Curee, or The Kill.
To quote a musical, We may see murder yet!
-
Five!
-
Good night, all.
-
Good evening.
-
DR George, you are such a nice and helpful man, can I adopt you? I don't have anyone in my family like you!
DR Jan, offer George a keychain. That might work.
-
Yesterday Wae-Ling told me she has been taking swing dance class at school. She said she liked the song about not leaving the party with anyone else. I figured out she was talking about "Luck Be a Lady," so we listened to Guys and Dolls while on an hour-long drive. She loved it.
-
Laura, any particular kind of key chain?
-
A keychain from one of your vacations or from where you live.
-
Jane, there are 3 different ingredients besides the ice cream itself in the one container, which is more than their usual.
I don't know if that's what they're calling Decadent. It's just tasty and classy, not decadent to me. :)
-
Maybe that's not what makes it Decadent. Looks like some Ben n Jerry's have lots more different mix-ins.
-
You folks reminded me that there is ice cream in the freezer.
-
Did some deleting where stuff might not be right for posterity. :)
-
Not a bad idea, FJL. We don't know who reads this site -- now or in the future.
-
Continued health vibes to Jane and anyone else who needs them.
Thank you.
I wonder if folks in 2050 will think BK was the head of a cult that worshipped Haines.
Everyone reads Haines His Way.
Even me.
-
What a weird and slightly off-putting day this has been. So much so that I had to finish the ice cream.
-
I just had to.
-
I had no choice.
-
Vuxdads car has been bought by Geico in lieu of repairs, we had to go down to the dealership and remove the plates and empty the trunk. Tomorrow it will be towed away for scrap
R.I.P. Vuxdad's car. :'(
I did finish the arty thriller, whose final twist was quite absurd.
I want In 'n' Out - that was the first place I went pre Taco Bell - three o'clock the drive-up line was a block-and-a-half long - what kind of moron does it take to wait in a line like that for a hamburger? As I drove by the jernt itself it was jammed with people with huge lines at the counter. Hence Taco Bell.
DR Jan, offer George a keychain. That might work.
:D
That reminds me I need to remember where I put his keychain from Iceland. I was kind of stressed when I unpacked after our trip.
Yes! You definitely had other things on your mind.
Several years ago, at an Encores! production, I ran into Ted Chapin in the lobby, and he made a reference to something I had posted on HHW that very morning. You never know who the guests are reading these posts. Be careful.
Ted Chapin reads HHW? That's pretty cool!
;)
Everyone reads Haines His Way.
Even me.
But does Guy Haines read Haines His Way??
Never misses it.
I want In 'n' Out - that was the first place I went pre Taco Bell - three o'clock the drive-up line was a block-and-a-half long - what kind of moron does it take to wait in a line like that for a hamburger? As I drove by the jernt itself it was jammed with people with huge lines at the counter. Hence Taco Bell.
I like Taco Bell. I've never been to an In 'n' Out. They're not here, either.
Never misses it.
Good!
Good evening.
Hello, Tom.
-
My friend Margot just sent me a Facebook message asking to call her because she couldn't find her phone! I called, but she didn't pick up! We went to an early dinner tonight and I was thinking that maybe she left it at the restaurant! But I called again and she answered! Evidently, it had been on her nightstand and fell, but it slipped somewhere where she couldn't see it...but she did hear it. Whew!
Yes, as I said before and am saying again - let's have fun here. It's okay to vent about things - we've all done it, but we don't want to put anyone off who is a dear reader. That's not what we're about and it's what separates the wheat from the chaff - although I have no idea what that means. It separates us from other such boards.
Now, who has tried the toasted coconut almond chip ice cream.
I went to Costco today and got some coconut clusters. I don't remember the brand or what else is in them, but they were quite delish!
Were? Does that mean they are gone?
-
I am catching a cold.
-
My condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Vix!
-
That seems like a total rip-off to me.
No! It was a big 15 ounce bag and each serving (for nutritional purposes) is only a half cup, so it'll take me a while to get through it...maybe.
I went to an In ‘n Out in Las Vegas. It was good, but not earth-shattering.
I did finish our new Porgy and Bess listening - it's just so good. Now I'm listening to the Modern Jazz Quartet's incredible jazz cover of Porgy and Bess.
-
I do have some dog biscuits here but oddly no dog. I bought them as treats because Grant frequently has his dog Baxter with him. Baxter is very skittish and doesn't trust anyone, but he now knows where the treats are.
-
Of course, I forgot the secret menu.
