Well, you've read the notes, the notes raved, and now it is time for you to post until the raving cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OROTUND!
-
First post after BK!
-
What a coinkydink! Just yesterday, I got the "Won’t You Be My Neighbor" DVD from the library!
-
And just last month (on August 30th), I bought the digital download to the Oscar Levant 8-CD set (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GJ1WK8H/)! I rarely buy MP3s, but it was on sale for only $9.99 (plus tax). The downside is that there's no packaging, not even a digital booklet. But the sound is great, even for MP3s.
-
I listen to a bit of it at work every once in a while.
-
Off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR Jand68, tonight is your opening!
Break a leg!
-
DR George, I misread DR TCB's WiFi comment, too!
-
Sorry to have left so abruptly last night I was suddenly overcome by sleep
-
I was too old for Mr Rogers when it came out ...I watched Captain Kangeroo, Wonderama, the Jerry Mahoney Club, Fun at One, Diver Dan , the Mickey Mouse Club, Birthday House
-
Oh and Shari Lewus with Lambchop and Charliehorse
-
The Vixter also watched Shari Lewis. She watched Mr Rogers and of course Sesame Street
-
I also remember The Electric Company
-
T.O.D.
HOWDY DOODY
SUPERMAN
THE LONE RANGER
ROY ROGERS
HOPALONG CASSIDY
-
Good morning to all
-
Good morning, all.

It just happens that I’m seeing Won’t You Be My Neighbor? this evening at the three dollar theater...a venue 20 minutes away that I so rarely think to check listings for. (They all too rarely show things I’d actually be interested in, which is why.)
Mr. Rogers wasn’t even close to my generation of TV watching, of course, but I readily admit to being one who, seeing moments of the show here and there, thought it was silly. Then again, I would have thought that about any number of shows, glimpsing them as an adult. Fortunately, my change of thinking on Rogers came about as I’d see him being interviewed or participating in other things over the years, so by the time I heard about this film, I was already in tune with it. Looking forward to it.
-
TOD
Ding Dong School (was that Miss Frances?)
Romper Room
Captain Kangaroo
Howdy Doody
Shari Lewis and Lambchops
Mickey Mouse Club
I think there was another early one or two produced at the local station in Columbus. A quick search yielded one called Flippo the Clown, the title of which at least rings a bell...
-
Since most of the choice Porgy snd Bess recordings in my collection are on LP, my highly anticipated P&B listening the other day was greatly compromised by a fault in the phono preamp which has decided to quit playing the right channel. It’s a decent piece of equipment that I’ll have to get repaired (or God forbid replaced) eventually, but this also gives me the push I needed to get system #2 set up and operating which is something I’ve looked forward to for years. The challenge is space. The rewards are so worth it, but this stuff takes up some room, man.

What a coinkydink! Just yesterday, I got the "Won’t You Be My Neighbor" DVD from the library!
We watched it last week.

Didn't you watch Mr Rogers with the Vixter?
-
HA!
That wacky Monsignor O'Hara always has to get into the act.

-
Yes thank you DR ELMORE - tonight is opening night. So therefore - we are ready.
-
TOD:
Superman - I bought the DVD's.
Roy Rogers - a local station still shows it on Saturdays, and sometimes I watch....I still hate Pat Brady and Nellie Belle - but the rest of it is okay.
Rocky Jones - a space opera that didn't have ENOUGH episodes....great special effects of rocket ships and space....
I was too old for Mr Rogers and Sesame Street, although I watched SS with my sister Molly. Our favorite program to watch together though was ZOOM....
-
Barnum is sitting on his swing and talking back to the parakeet CD that I have been playing for him...... His store closed at 9 p.m. and he was up past 11 p.m. last night, so he is tired today.
Once the show ends on Sunday, he can get back on his regular schedule.
-
Oscar Levant was one of the guests I always looked forward to on The Jack Paar Show on Friday nights....Levant, Dodie Goodman, Genevieve, and Selma Diamond were always a lot of fun - even though I didn't understand everything they were talking about.
I read Levant's autobiography which I liked. On the Paar show, he talked about his favorite review of his work: "Last night Oscar Levant left his contemporaries and his conductor far behind....."
-
It just happens that I’m seeing Won’t You Be My Neighbor? this evening at the three dollar theater...
"Three Dollar Theater" sound like it would be a wonderful take-off on the old "Million Dollar Movie."
-
"Million Dollar Movie" opening - the theme sounds a lot like Tara's Theme.

Yes thank you DR ELMORE - tonight is opening night. So therefore - we are ready.
Jrand - We were at the Bar Mitzvah of the lyricist's son.
So you can say honestly that vibes were sent from some guy on the internet who was at the Bar Mitzvah of the lyricist's son.
-
Good morning.
-
Mister Rogers was one of a kind. The world needs more people like him.
-
TOD:
Romper Room
Captain Kangaroo
Sesame Street
Electric Company
I tried to watch Mr. Rogers a couple times and was bored to tears. I understand he was a very nice man and did a lot for children, but he had no energy whatsoever and I'm surprised he was so popular.
I'm too young for Micky Mouse Club - they brought it back in reruns a couple decades later, but by that time I was too old, and the show looked very dated.
-
DR FJL this is most excellent news to be shared in the circle.....
-
Monsignor O'Hara looks great. Have a terrific opening night.
-
Good morning/afternoon.
-
Break A Leg Vibes to DR Jrand and The Cast and crew of SISTER ACT!!
-
I enjoyed the movie version of SISTER ACT, and I like all of the music that I have heard from the show. Tacoma Musical Playhouse is doing the show this season, so I am hoping to see it then.
-
T.O.D.
I was too old for Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street.
In my youth I remember:
MICKEY MOUSE CLUB
CAPTAIN KANGAROO
HOWDY DOWDY, and local programs:
J.P. PATCHES
STAN BORESON AND KING'S KLUBHOUSE
CAPTAIN PUGET
BRAKEMAN BILL
-
May the Monsignor break a leg tonight!
-
TOD:
I tried to watch Mr. Rogers a couple times and was bored to tears. I understand he was a very nice man and did a lot for children, but he had no energy whatsoever and I'm surprised he was so popular.
I did not enjoy watching Mr Rogers, bored the heck out of me. Our oldest son loved him so I watched. I think he was calming after the energy of Sesame Street. He also addressed simple things children were afraid of that adults always don't think of.
When Bryan was five I was in the kitchen while he was watching Mr Rogers and walked in to ask me why he was watching someone get a hair cut. He understood my explanation that some children are afraid of haircuts, a nice lesson on compassion but I think he began to get a bit bored with the show after that ;D
-
Saturday mornings were always
FURY
SKY KING
CIRCUS BOY
THE LONE RANGER
-
I'm up, I'm up - certainly no more than five hours of sleep due to a busy brain.
-
Break legs for Jrand.
-
And then the cartoon programs:
Huckleberry Hound
Yogi Bear
Rocky and Bullwinkle
The Flintstones
The Jetsons
-
Many adults were bored of Mr. Rogers - but yes, he subtly addressed things no other show did the way he did - death, integration - he couldn't exist in today's ADAD world.
-
I find the subject of local TV programs of the 1950s-1960s an oddly fascinating one. Of course such a history would continue well beyond that, but those were "my" years of watching, and part of my interest is the fact that those were also the first years of TV itself. The local programs, especially, were bound to be fairly primitive in production value and even content, and I just find that fascinating.
My two favorite categories are (1) the type of children's programs we're talking about today, and (2) the various and sundry late night horror movie anthologies hosted by local imitators of Vampira and Elvira and the like. These things contributed their own indelible stamp on our childhoods.
-
OMG, here's another thing in those "You Grew Up In" / "Do You Remember" Facebook groups that makes me want to throw up: the number of posts ending with, or just saying only: "Good times" - or, for variation, "Great times" - just after someone has reminded the person of something they're suddenly finding very nostalgic about.
Now, on the face of it, there should be nothing wrong with saying that. But it's the folksy aspect of the expression, and the way I generally hear people saying it, that I react to. Not to mention, of course, the absolute overuse of it in the first place.
This, for your reading pleasure, has been a rant. Not a rave.
-
I concur with the rant. My biggest pet peeve are the same threads being posted over and over again - someone just posted about the 50th Wallichs Music City thread, Helms pops up every two days, as do the kiddie show hosts of the 50s. It's really easy to search threads on these groups. But the funny bit is the same people respond in every thread as if there's never been a thread. They are, in a word, morons.
-
HA!

Great picture, Jrand!

~~~Opening Night Break Legs Vibes for Jrand and Cast!!~~~
-
Topic of the Day:
The Banana Splits
Captain Kangaroo
The Electric Company
The New Zoo Revue
Mr. Rogers
Sesame Street
Shari Lewis with Lambchop (not a lot, but I remember seeing some episodes)
Sigmund and the Sea Monsters
Zoom ("Send it to Zoom, Zee Double-Oh Em, Box Three Five Oh, Boston, Mass, Oh Two One Three Four. Send it to Zoom!") I can't believe I still remember that!
And a local (to Seattle) show was Boomerang (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LltPTXZu9uY) with Marni Nixon.
-
And then the cartoon programs:
Huckleberry Hound
Yogi Bear
Rocky and Bullwinkle
The Flintstones
The Jetsons
I remember all of these, too!
-
Many adults were bored of Mr. Rogers - but yes, he subtly addressed things no other show did the way he did - death, integration - he couldn't exist in today's ADAD world.
Oh, my goodness, yes! Just compare Mr. Rogers to SpongeBob SquarePants! :-\
-
Many of the shows mentioned by other readers of a certain age certainly ring a bell with me.
Thanks to all for the vibes - I shall be on my way to Opening Night. Two of my sisters will be in the audience.....I hope we get a good response....of course the student friends of the student actors will WAHOO and WHISTLE and STOMP for them...and at any reference that is in the least suggestive.
-
Pray for Rosemary's Baby.
-
Well, in just a few minutes at 2:00, we're having a staff meeting regarding the article in the local paper about the library: Sweeping changes -- including library closures -- proposed in Timberland facilities plan (https://www.theolympian.com/latest-news/article219050200.html). ::)
But, I'm going to leave before 3:00 because that's when my family is meeting at Falls Terrace Restaurant to celebrate my sister's birthday! Then tonight, I'm going to see King Lear with Ian McKellen at the movie theater!
Until later...whenever that may be!
Work session about to begin.
Work session about to begin.
You'll do better work if HHW is on page 3.
But can we get to page 3?
-
I attribute today's lower page counts to needing a positive attitude. :)
-
I could fill half a page with this past hour's vitriol alone. :)
-
Thursday afternoon greetings! Rebecca and I had a long coffee visit at Starbucks this morning, then I did a couple of errands on the way home. Ate my lunch while watching some of the Judiciary Committee hearing - until I couldn’t stand it anymore. Now I’m cooking pork chops for dinner.
-
TOD - Captain Kangaroo, Romper Room, Ding Dong School, Mickey Mouse Club, and that local Detroit favorite Soupy Sales. He was on at lunchtime and it was one of the few programs I was allowed to watch while eating.
With Rob, of course, we watched Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, and Reading Rainbow.
-
Work session done - quick and easy.
-
I shall shortly be on my way to the auditions.
-
Won't be eating anything until after that.
-
Good evening!
-
Greetings, from the three dollar theater.
Bring on Mr. Rogers!
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
Work was a pain.
-
I got in a half-hour early and still got beaten up.
A little news: after 38 years, 10 months and (I think) 14 days, tomorrow will be my last day as a federal worker. I figured it was time, but it will be strange not having to get up early and commute every day.
-
Congratulations! You can stay home and enjoy the rain ;)
-
Thanks, DR Jane!
Congratulations to DR KevinH!
Congrats, DR KevinH!
Wonderful. I just popped Bogdanovich's Daisy Miller into the DVD player about 10 minutes before you posted this. Cybill Shepherd is perfectly irritating in the title role and perfectly cast. The movie is less than perfect, but it's not Shepherd's fault.
-
How could I forget RomperRoom? I still remember all the songs
-
And Zoom! George I was singing that address in my head before I read your post!
-
I took went to see Ian McKellanin King Lear tonight. I very much enjoyed it except for the actress who played Regan... I don't know what the hell she was trying to project but she just looked like she had to pee
-
Thank you George for quoting Jacks photo, I can see it in your quote but it's a blank square for me in Jacks post
-
Great photo, Jack
-
I hope the opening performance was a great success
-
Congratulations Kevin on a well earned retirement
-
I should never have left UPS... I would have 42 years in by now and could have been retiring myself
-
Woulda coulda shoulda
See me walk so straight and tall I won't let my basket fall, eyes ahead, don't look down, keep your basket off the ground
Tune of “Free to Be You and Me”
I’m relieved we are free
You and me.
Happy birthday, DS Craig!
Thank you.
Happy birthday to Craig!
Oh goodness still on 4?
-
Well that's no good
I order what George thought of Lear
-
And if he found Regan as distracting as I did
It's nearly time for me to get up
So I should probably go to sleep
Can't wake up if I don!t sleep first
Where's TCB ?
And bk?
And that damn page 5?
-
Must be here somewhere
-
Ah! There you are!
-
Page five
-
Good night
-
Good evening.
-
It took me a long time to get signed on here tonight.
-
So, I guess I had better type fast.
-
Congrats to KevinH!
-
I loathe At Long Last Love in any of its incarnations. But there's always one critic who cries masterpiece about just every film ever made.
-
Before I get kicked out again.
-
We actually only had one no-show out of fifteen people. We're now fully cast - we're going with someone for the male lead who's good but not completely right, but we're just done trying to get people to see what an opportunity this is. Actors in LA are beyond entitled and not very bright, I'm afraid. I mean you get to create a role in a new musical, appear on its cast album, and forever have your name in the licensed version, and believe me this will be licensed by one of the major houses.
-
~~~~Happy Retirement to Our Dear Reader, KevinH~~~~
-
Congratulations to BK for being fully cast!!

Tom Hanks is set to play Mr. Rogers in a new film scheduled for release in 10/19.

Damn, this is hard work!

-
Hi, Tom.
-
Has anyone here ever tried the plug-in WiFi boosters?
-
I will admit that I'd never seen King Lear and didn't read a synopsis, so at times I found it a little difficult to follow, but I wasn't lost during the whole show.
-
Has anyone here ever tried the plug-in WiFi boosters?
I know a couple of people who have them and if I remember, I'm pretty sure that they liked them.

Thanks, Jane! Of course, it's still just a recommendation at this point.
